Job summary

True Connection Communities in Shelby Township, MI, is seeking a Community Cook for a part-time role (~30 hours/week) to support meal preparation in a safe, appetizing manner in line with dietary standards and community policies.

Work in a fast-paced kitchen, bake breads and pastries, portion meals, and help with menus while maintaining cleanliness and safety.

Qualifications

• Proven cooking experience, including line chef or prep cook roles.
• Excellent understanding of cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures.
• Basic food handling knowledge and safe cooking practices.
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a busy kitchen.
• Team player with ability to work under pressure and maintain cleanliness.
• Culinary school diploma preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, cuts, prepares, and cooks meat, fish, or poultry to safe temperatures.
• Prepares items according to menus and dietary requirements.
• Bakes breads, rolls, and pastries.
• Portions and serves food to residents, guests, and team members.
• Washes cookware and maintains kitchen cleanliness.
• Inventories supplies and equipment; assists in menu decisions.
• Ensures galley equipment and work areas are clean and functional.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Part Time approximately 30 hours per week

Duties And Responsibilities

• Cleans, cuts, prepares, and cooks meat, fish, or poultry to a safe temperature.
• Prepares and cooks various items according to menus, special dietary or nutritional requirements, or numbers of portions to be served.
• Bakes breads, rolls, and pastries.
• Portions and serves food to residents, guests and team members.
• Washes cooking equipment such as pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and other pieces.
• Inventories supplies and equipment.
• Determines, or assists in determining meals and menus.
• Ensures the cleanliness and functional operation of galley equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas by routinely cleaning and inspecting each piece.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Proven cooking experience, including experience as a line chef, restaurant cook or prep cook
• Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
• Basic understanding of food handling techniques, preparation, and cooking procedures.
• Must be able to work quickly and efficiently.
• Must be able to work well as part of a team.
• Must be able to work well under pressure.
• Ability to maintain personal cleanliness.
• Culinary school diploma preferred.

Working Conditions

This position works in a fast-paced kitchen with exposure to heat, flames, cold temperatures, slippery floors and sharp cooking tools. The Cook may work in close contact with others. The Cook must comply with food safety regulations, which include appropriate clothing and protective gear such as hairnets, masks, disposable gloves and slip-resistant shoes.
