Job summary

Community Assisted & Supported Living Inc in Sarasota, FL is seeking dependable, compassionate cooks for an assisted living community. The kitchen operates seven days a week. We are looking for a full-time cook and individuals to become part of our PRN pool.

Weekend rotation is required for the full-time position. Starting rate of pay is $20.00 per hour. The role involves preparing three meals daily, ensuring timely service, and maintaining kitchen and dining room cleanliness with strict food

Qualifications

  • High school diploma preferred.
  • At least one-year experience cooking or food service in a restaurant or institutional dietary setting.
  • Must pass criminal background screens and remain eligible.
  • Must pass drug screen and follow drug-free workplace policy.
  • Must be 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Kitchen Lead on all communications involving the kitchen.
  • Prep, cook, and serve three meals a day and snacks, according to established menus and schedules.
  • Complete food preparation in a timely and organized manner to ensure meals are ready and served as scheduled.
  • Completes advance food preparation of the week’s menu as directed by the Kitchen Lead.
  • Safely use all kitchen appliances and utensils.
  • Follow established food safety, sanitation, and food-handling procedures.
  • Properly store food and maintain clean and organized refrigerators, freezers, and food-storage areas.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen areas, equipment, and food preparation surfaces after each meal.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen throughout the shift.
  • Clean and reset the dining room after each meal.
  • As a team, follow the mid-shift cleaning schedule each Wednesday: clean drawer and under serving line; freezers and refrigerators alternating biweekly; pull out and clean the catch tray under six burner stove; clean stove backsplash; clean and sanitize three compartment sink; clean and maintain spice shelf trays and replace trays as needed; clean dining room and kitchen rugs/mats.
  • Complete intermittent cleaning as directed/needed: ceiling fans, walls behind food prep areas and dishwashing area, windowsills and baseboards, shelving, air conditioner vents in kitchen.
  • Maintain compliance with all state regulations and licensure standards at all times.
  • Responsible for reporting any unsafe condition or equipment problems immediately upon discovery to the Kitchen Lead.
  • Provide attentive, friendly, respectful service to residents during meal service.
  • Observe and promptly report any resident issues, concerns, changes, or unusual behavior to the Kitchen Lead or Resident Care team.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident information.
  • Required to check company email once a day and respond as appropriate.
  • Interact professionally with residents, co-workers, and vendors.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Position Requirements
Qualifications/Education Requirements
  • No minimum education required; high school diploma preferred.
  • Culinary training/degree preferred.
  • ServSafe Certification preferred.
  • At least one-year experience cooking or food service ina restaurant or institutional dietary setting.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • At least one-year experience working with people with mental health diagnoses preferred.
  • Must demonstrate basic written skills.
  • Must demonstrate basic computer skills.
  • Must have basic math skills.
  • Ability to prepare multiple meals and manage several tasks efficiently.
  • Strong attention to cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to work independently.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to recognize, react, and report resident concerns appropriately.
  • Availability to work rotating weekends.
  • Must be able to work with diverse groups and individuals.
