POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, the child care center cook is responsible to plan, prepare and document all meals for the child care center and children. The Cook oversees operations of the food program, including hygiene, meal planning and preparation, food distribution, record keeping and all kitchen operations. The cook is also responsible to adhere to the child care food program guidelines and all public health regulations regarding food storage and preparation.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares nutritious meals and snacks for enrolled children; prepares substitute items for children on restricted diets.
- Distributes food to the classrooms.
- Practices safe food handling techniques in food preparation and storage.
- Maintains verification of food and non-food purchases to meet Child Care Food Program (CCFP) requirements.
- Keeps a daily meal production record following the requirements of the CCFP
- Keeps a daily record of menus.
- Obtains and retains manufacturers' specifications (or Child Nutrition Label) for any commercially prepared food items not listed in the SFBG.
- In collaboration with the Program Supervisor and Site Supervisor, develops weekly menus to meet CCFP meal pattern requirements.
- Work cooperatively with staff, students, vendors and funding agency monitors; maintain accurate written records; perform mathematical calculations accurately.
- Maintains a safe and sanitary kitchen, pantry and storage areas; washes items used for food preparation.
- Attends Food Handling and Food Program Trainings as needed.
- State Regulation requires 4 hours of in-service food related training.
- Must clean up the breakfast room once breakfast is over cleaning duties include: Wiping down the tables, wiping off the chairs and stacking chairs, Sweep and mop the floor

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Knowledge of early childhood nutrition and production cooking
- 1 year experience in production and commercial cooking
- 1 year experience with CCFP requirements and documentation preferred
- Ability to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, bending, standing, climbing, and walking
- Ability to lift at least 50lbs (unassisted)
