Job summary

Charter Senior Living of Hermitage is seeking a weekend Cook to prepare and serve nutritious meals for residents. You will plan menus, cook meals, maintain kitchen cleanliness, and follow food safety regulations, ensuring meals meet dietary needs and provide a warm dining experience.

The role emphasizes teamwork with kitchen staff, adherence to schedules, and reliable hours. A High school diploma is required; culinary certification is a plus, with healthcare experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary certification is a plus.
• Experience as a cook, preferably in healthcare or assisted living.
• Strong culinary skills and knowledge of elderly dietary needs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to established menus, recipes, and dietary guidelines.
• Plan weekly menus and accommodate residents' dietary needs and restrictions.
• Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures; maintain a clean kitchen environment.
• Interact with residents in a friendly and respectful manner; accommodate preferences.
• Monitor inventory and order supplies; ensure ingredients are fresh and used within shelf life.
• Maintain kitchen equipment and report maintenance issues to the Food Services Manager.
• Complete documentation such as food temperature logs and cleaning schedules to ensure compliance with health regulations.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Cook at Charter Senior Living of Hermitage is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, delicious, and well-balanced meals for our residents. This role involves planning menus, cooking meals, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and adhering to food safety regulations. The Cook plays a vital role in ensuring that residents receive meals that meet their dietary needs and preferences while fostering a warm and inviting dining experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Meal Preparation: Prepare and cook meals according to established menus, recipes, and dietary guidelines. Ensure that meals are presented attractively and meet quality standards.
• Menu Planning: Assist in planning weekly menus that cater to residents’ dietary needs, preferences, and any special dietary restrictions or medical conditions.
• Food Safety: Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures, including proper food handling, storage, and cleanliness protocols. Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment.
• Resident Interaction: Engage with residents in a friendly and respectful manner. Address any meal preferences or dietary concerns they may have and make accommodations as needed.
• Inventory Management: Monitor food inventory levels, manage ordering of supplies, and ensure that all ingredients are fresh and used within their shelf life.
• Kitchen Maintenance: Maintain kitchen equipment and appliances in good working condition. Report any maintenance issues to the Food Services Manager.
• Team Collaboration: Work effectively with other kitchen staff, including kitchen aides and dietary aides, to ensure smooth meal service operations. Participate in team meetings and contribute to a positive work environment.
• Documentation: Complete and maintain required documentation, such as food temperature logs and cleaning schedules, to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Push, pull, and lift at least 30 pounds. Frequent transporting of residents in wheelchair.
• Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, and bend for periods of up to eight hours with breaks as provided for in the employee handbook.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Culinary certification or relevant vocational training is a plus.
• Experience: Previous experience as a cook, preferably in a healthcare or assisted living setting, is desirable.
• Skills: Strong culinary skills with a focus on food preparation and presentation. Knowledge of food safety practices and dietary requirements for elderly residents.
• Personal Attributes: Compassionate and patient demeanor, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, lift and carry heavy items, and work in a kitchen environment with exposure to heat and sharp utensils.
