Job summary

State of West Virginia seeks a cook for a Juvenile Correctional Facility to prepare three meals daily, operate kitchen equipment, and keep areas clean. You will follow mandated menus, including any special diets, and ensure meals are delivered promptly to residents.

You will assist with ordering and receipt of food items, and maintain daily/weekly logs for inspections and nutrition programs. Scheduling is a priority, and other duties may be assigned by your Supervisor.

Qualifications

Nature of Work

This position is responsible for the preparation of three meals and snacks per day for residents of a Juvenile Correctional Facility. This position will operate all food service equipment to include cleanliness of each. This position follows all mandated menus to include any special diets. Assists in ordering and receiving of all food service items. Assists with paperwork for inspections and nutrition programs, maintaining daily and weekly logs according to policy and procedures. This position will have daily contact with the resident of the juvenile facility in which this position works. This position will ensure the timely deliverance of meals to ensure the resident population is served. Scheduling will be a priority. Will also perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Pay and Benefits

• In accordance with SPB 3088 effective 10/7/23, $5000 will be added to the minimum starting rate of pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility. Critical Vacancy Pay Facilities: Huttonsville Correctional Center and Jail, Mount Olive Correctional Complex and Jail, Western Regional Jail and Corrections Facility, Northern Correctional Facility (including Ohio County Correctional Center), Northern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, Chick Buckbee Juvenile Center, Vicki Douglas Juvenile Center, Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, and Eastern Regional Jail and Corrections Facility (including Martinsburg Correctional Center) (SPB 3088).
• Employees in this classification shall receive an annual base building pay differential each fiscal year of $250 after completing one year of service.
• If an employee is hired into a Critical Vacancy Pay Facility (CVPF) and leaves the facility, the additional pay differential of $5,000 shall be removed from their salary, unless transferring to another CVPF.

Minimum Qualifications

• Training: Ability to pass a written test at the eighth grade level.
• Experience: One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in large-scale food preparation and serving.
• Special Requirements: Applicant must furnish an approved food handler's certificate within seven days after appointment.
