Avir at Lufkin is seeking a dietary cook to prepare and cook high quality foods for residents and staff in alignment with health regulations and facility standards.
The role involves coordinating dietary activities, supervising food service aides, and ensuring proper diet modifications and presentation while maintaining sanitation. English literacy and physical ability to lift 50 pounds are required.
Prepare and cook high quality hot and cold foods for regular and modified diets for residents, guests, and employees of the facility in accordance with the State Department of Health Rules and Regulations and the standards set forth by the facility by performing the following duties.
Coordinate Dietary activities by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Maintain Rights of Residents as set forth by the Texas Department of Health Laws and Regulations. Utilizes a variety of cooking and food preparation equipment and techniques. Prepares simple food regimes and basic modified diets regarding individual resident nutritional needs. Adjusts recipes to yield the required number of servings if necessary. Tests recipes and recommends changes in recipes. Prepares and cooks food in batches maintaining high quality and appeal. Portions food accurately. Inspects food and food preparation to maintain quality standards, temperature standards, and sanitation regulations. Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition. Cleans up after preparation of foods. Complies with the Department of Health regulations, as well as the facility’s policies and procedures for food handling and storage. Reports to work as scheduled in a clean, neat uniform. Supervises food service aides as assigned. Directs activities of one or more workers who assist in preparing and serving meals. Ensure dishes are garnished and decorated before serving to enhance presentation. Attends educational training/in-services as required. Performs other related dietary tasks as assigned. Knowledgeable of and implements all safety, universal precautions, and company policies/procedures for the protection of residents, co-worker, and self. Other duties as assigned, with or without reasonable accommodations, to assist in maintaining quality standards and maintaining the facility as a viable and successful entity. Previous nursing home experience preferred Culinary and/or food service experience in a health care facility preferred
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Ability to remain calm under stress. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies. Ability to demonstrate patience, tact, courtesy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile residents within the facility. Ability to read and write in English. Must be able to lift and transfer a minimum of 50 pounds. Be professional, supportive, and kind to internal and external constituents Remain loyal and confidential to staff, residents, and owner Keep the corporate office apprised of situations that could negatively impact the facility Ensure only positive information is mentioned to all contacts of the facility, prospective residents, staff, sales staff, and inspection teams, etc.
