The Cook prepares and serves nutritious, attractive meals and maintains the cleanliness of the food production and service areas. The ideal candidate has demonstrated skills as a cook and can prepare a wide range of foods skillfully while following health and safety regulations.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

1. Prepares and serves meals as indicated on planned menus using standardized portion sizes and approved substitutions.
2. Ensures that meals are served at scheduled times, planning and organizing food preparation tasks appropriately.
3. Completes all clean-up duties as needed after each meal service.
4. Follows cleaning schedules and sanitation checklists to maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen and food service areas.
5. Ensures that resident, staff, and guest meals are accounted for according to established procedures.
6. Ensures that resident food preferences are met.
7. Observes and reports any problems or concerns regarding the Food Service Department to the Director of Food Service or Executive Director.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Physical Requirements

1. Successful employment as a cook.
2. Ability to prepare and serve a wide range of foods skillfully.
3. Ability to regularly lift up to 30 pounds, occasionally lift more than 50 pounds, and spend long periods standing.
4. Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to food preparation.
5. Ability to organize and manage time effectively with minimal supervision.

Education & Experience

1. High School Diploma or GED required.
2. Two or more years of experience cooking for large groups preferred.
3. Experience preparing special diets (e.g., low sodium, low cholesterol, diabetic, vegetarian) preferred.
