Job summary

Genacross Lutheran Services is seeking a part-time Dietary Cook to prepare meals for residents and ensure service quality in a faith-based care setting. The role emphasizes hospitality, regulatory compliance, and teamwork with the dietician and care staff.

Pay starts at $13.75 per hour. Benefits include health and life insurance, a 401K with employer contributions, PTO, HSA and more. Prior LTC experience and Serve Safe certification are recommended.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Prior experience in long-term care and high-volume food production is preferred.
  • Serve Safe Certification strongly recommended.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to interact with residents, families, staff and leadership.
  • Understanding directions and responding promptly to inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Review menus in preparation for meal services.
  • Prepare food in compliance with applicable federal, state and local standards and policies.
  • Deliver food to residents efficiently and accurately.
  • Assist in distributing meals during dining experiences.
  • Process diet changes and new diets as requested by nursing services.
  • Complete forms and reports to ensure smooth dietary operations.
  • Collaborate with the dietician to implement dining changes.
  • Report resident concerns to the Director of Dietary Services.
  • Provide guidance to Dietary Aides according to policies and procedures.
  • Assist in inventory and storage of foods and supplies while maintaining accuracy.
  • Perform assigned cleaning duties per established policies.
  • Report abuse/neglect and hazardous incidents to leadership.
  • Implement and follow disaster plans during emergencies.

Dietary Cook is responsible for preparing food in accordance with applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations and our established policies and procedures. Emphasize the spirit of hospitality while delivering a person-centered meal service meal program.

What will I do as a Cook with Genacross?

  • Review menus in preparation for meal services.
  • Prepare food in accordance with applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations and our established policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the efficient and accurate delivery of food to residents.
  • Assists in the distributing of resident meals during dining experience.
  • Processes diet changes and new diets as received from nursing services.
  • Completes necessary forms, reports, etc. in order to ensure smooth operations of the dietary department.
  • Works closely with the dietician in order to implement necessary changes to the resident dining experience.
  • Addresses resident concerns in a professional manner and reports those concerns to the Director of Dietary Services.
  • Provides guidance and direction to the Dietary Aides as defined by applicable operation policies and procedures for the department.
  • Assists in the inventory and storage process of incoming foods, supplies, etc. and works to maintain accuracy and organization in this process within applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations and our established policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for assigned cleaning duties in compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Reports allegations of abuse/neglect and reports, as appropriate, to proper organization leadership.
  • Reports hazardous incidents, including but not limited to, injuries, equipment, etc. to the appropriate Manager/Supervisor.
  • Implements and follows disaster plans in the event of an emergency.

Cook Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Prior experience working in a long-term care setting and with a high-volume food production setting preferred.
  • Serve Safe Certification strongly recommended.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to learn new software application as required by the position.
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with senior executives, managers, supervisors and direct care staff, as well as residents, families and physicians.
  • Understands directions; communicates and responds to inquiries promptly.
