Cook – Buckner Retirement Services Community: The Stayton at Museum Way
Location: Fort Worth, TX - Onsite (Full‑Time)
We are seeking a Cook to join our community committed to delivering outstanding food to our residents. As a Cook, you will play an important role in all phases of food preparation that meets or exceeds Buckner quality, service, and hospitality standards.
Responsibilities
- Prepare food items using The Stayton standardized recipes and ensure that all food meets quality and service standards.
- Prepare meals based on menu requirements, selecting appropriate ingredients and supplies and obtaining necessary supplies from storage areas in adequate time for meal production.
- Cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals that are nourishing, palatable and appetizing in appearance using standard recipes.
- Monitor food quality during production for taste, smell, appearance, and temperature.
- Prepare meals efficiently and cost‑effectively while using food items and equipment safely.
- Obtain approval from supervisor on all food substitutions.
- Maintain meal count and documentation records in accordance with standards; monitor for overproduction and recommend appropriate use of leftovers.
- Maintain food inventories and complete requisition forms.
- Plan cooking schedules in conjunction with the Culinary Director; ensure food readiness at meal times per The Stayton cooking and serving schedules.
- Conduct temperature checks of cooked food prior to service.
Qualifications
- Completion of required training and certification, including food handlers certificate.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred; minimum 1 year related experience required.
- Knowledge of food preparation, ingredients, recipes, and equipment for dining facilities serving at least 25 individuals.
- Ability to learn and follow food serving, cleanliness, and sanitation requirements.
- Ability to understand and follow basic written and oral step‑by‑step instructions.
- Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English; ability to understand business documents written in English.
- Ability to communicate verbally in English with residents, families, visitors, co‑workers, and others.
- Work primarily with objects, equipment, or machines within arm’s reach; good depth perception and peripheral vision.
- Ability to safely use food service and preparation equipment and recognize operational issues.
- Ability to work under moderate supervision performing routine, standardized tasks.
