Corewell Health is hiring a part-time Cook for Farmington Hills Hospital to prepare hot and cold meals for patients, guests, and staff. You will perform line cooking, prep, and vegetable prep, following standardized recipes and maintaining quality, portions, and safety.

Your duties include preparing soups and entrees, monitoring temperatures, labeling and dating items, and coordinating with other staff to ensure smooth service across patient rooms, cafeterias, and grab-and-go markets.

Competenze

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 2 years of relevant experience in food service or equivalent
• CRT-accredited certifications to be obtained within 90 days

• Fry, bake, broil, braise, and grill hot foods.
• Prepare soups, eggs, entrees, vegetables, and other items per recipes.
• Monitor food quantities as counts vary and ensure quality, temperature, and presentation.
• Assemble and prepare ingredients by cleaning and cutting; follow standardized recipes.
• Monitor temperatures and log on temperature sheets; replace items not meeting standards.
• Store and label food items, date, and utilize leftovers within allotted time.
• Set up steam tables for patient and cafeteria tray lines; coordinate with staff.
• Communicate with staff to ensure continuity of service; assist with line cooking and mise en place.

Job Summary

As a Cook, you’ll play a vital role in the preparation and execution of hot and cold meals in our restaurants, room service, and grab & go markets. From line cooking and prep cooking to vegetable prep, short order cooking, catering, and mise en place, you’ll have the opportunity to showcase your culinary skills and make a positive impact on those we serve every day.

Essential Functions

• Performs hot food preparation including frying, baking, broiling, braising and grilling.
• Prepares soups, cereals, eggs, entrees, vegetables, and other food items as necessary.
• Monitors food quantity needs as customer counts or volumes vary.
• Assembles and prepares ingredients for cooking by cleaning and cutting.
• Follows standardized recipes, calculating ingredients based on weight and volume.
• Monitors food quality, assesses food presentation in regards to taste, texture and eye appeal and maintains food temperatures.
• Records temperatures correctly on temperature log sheets. Takes responsibility to replace food items that do not fit our standards.
• Stores food items as required, labeling and dating items per standards. Appropriately utilizes leftovers within allotted time.
• Sets up steam tables on patient and cafeteria tray lines.
• Communicates with other staff members to ensure continuity and coordination of services.

Qualifications

Required

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 2 years of relevant experience in food service or equivalent experience.
• CRT-Accredited Food Handler- ANSI National Accreditation Board within 90 days
• CRT-Accredited Food Allergy Certificate - ANSI National Accreditation Board within 90 days
• OR CRT-Accredited Food Protection Manager, CFP -ANSI National Accreditation Board within 90 days

Preferred

• Courses in food preparation.
• A course of sixteen weeks to one year in baking education and cake decorating techniques.
• Ability to read, write and basic cooking skills.
• Ability to read, follow and understand standardization recipes.
• Must be knowledgeable of patient diet requirements.
• Must be knowledgeable in sanitation practices.
