Job summary

Adecco Permanent Recruitment is seeking an experienced Controls/DCS Technician for a manufacturing environment in Columbia, SC. You will perform hands-on automation and controls work with DeltaV DCS and AB PLCs, troubleshoot and maintain DCS/PLC/HMI systems, and support commissioning and startup activities.

The role requires strong instrumentation knowledge, reading P&IDs and electrical drawings, and flexibility for on-call/on-shift needs.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Industrial Electronics Technology, or military technical training, or 5–10 years of equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Experience supporting DCS, PLC, instrumentation, automation, electrical, or control systems in an industrial environment.
  • Strong ability to read P&IDs, loop sheets, electrical drawings, control schematics, and panel drawings.
  • Familiarity with Emerson DeltaV, Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networking.
  • Willingness to support on-call hours, overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on automation and controls support using Emerson DeltaV DCS and Allen-Bradley PLCs.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain DCS, PLC, HMI, instrumentation, I/O, networking, and control system components.
  • Perform field checks, loop checks, functional testing, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and startup support.
  • Troubleshoot electrical circuits, control panels, field instrumentation, and automation equipment.
  • Support basic DCS/PLC programming changes and HMI graphic modifications.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot existing and legacy control systems.
  • Assist with industrial communication interfaces and control system networking.
  • Support controls projects through field verification, installation, testing, checkout, and startup.

Job description

We’re seeking an experienced Controls / DCS Technician to join a manufacturing team.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide hands-on automation and controls support using Emerson DeltaV DCS and Allen-Bradley PLCs
  • Troubleshoot and maintain DCS, PLC, HMI, instrumentation, I/O, networking, and control system components
  • Perform field checks, loop checks, functional testing, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and startup support
  • Troubleshoot electrical circuits, control panels, field instrumentation, and automation equipment
  • Support basic DCS/PLC programming changes and HMI graphic modifications
  • Maintain and troubleshoot existing and legacy control systems
  • Assist with industrial communication interfaces and control system networking
  • Support controls projects through field verification, installation, testing, checkout, and startup
  • Partner with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and contractors to resolve plant issues
  • Develop and maintain troubleshooting guides, procedures, control documentation, and maintenance records
  • Train and support Maintenance and Operations personnel on control systems and equipment
  • Participate in on-call plant support for controls, automation, instrumentation, and electrical issues
  • Associate degree in Industrial Electronics Technology or a related technical field, military technical training, OR 5–10 years of equivalent hands-on experience
  • Experience supporting DCS, PLC, instrumentation, automation, electrical, or control systems in an industrial environment
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills with instrumentation, control panels, I/O, electrical circuits, networks, and automation equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop sheets, electrical drawings, control schematics, and panel drawings
  • Familiarity with Emerson DeltaV, Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networking
  • Ability to support loop checks, functional testing, commissioning, and startup
  • Willingness to support on-call hours, overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Experience in chemical, petrochemical, polymer, or continuous-process manufacturing
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E, NEC, and Safety Instrumented Systems
