Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking an engineer/technician to design hardware and software for HVAC control systems. You will support submittals, communicate design intent to customers, and assist in commissioning and warranty tasks.

The role involves selecting designs, programming, and coordinating drawings and schedules with field teams. Ideal candidates have a degree in engineering or computer science, with experience in installing or commissioning controls systems.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Design hardware and software for HVAC control systems per project requirements.
  • Provide submittals and communicate design/operation to customers, consultants, and field teams.
  • Respond to basic warranty calls.
  • Select hardware designs from standard design library; create BOMs and schematics.
  • Perform software programming per established standards.
  • Coordinate drawings and equipment schedules for submittals.
  • Order and track materials; coordinate factory-mounting processes.
  • Assist in commissioning and validation; troubleshoot with subcontractors.
  • Create as-built drawings and documentation; keep stakeholders informed.
  • Support site-specific owner/operator training; complete required paperwork.

What You Will Do

Under direct supervision and using established standards, you will be responsible for hardware designs and software programming for HVAC control systems to meet the intent of the project requirements. Provide detailed information and submittals to communicate design and operation to customers, consultants, Johnson Controls field installation team and subcontractors. Respond to basic warranty calls.

How You Will Do It
  • Select hardware designs from standard design library for flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bill of material, network layouts and electrical schematics as required.
  • Perform software programming using established standards as a basis of design.
  • Coordinate the creation of necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
  • Select, order, and track the delivery of materials for assigned projects. Coordinate factory‑mounting processes to meet factory and project schedule.
  • Assist in the loading and commissioning of all system and network‑level controllers as required. Assist in validation of complete system functionality and troubleshoot problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
  • Gather field changes from the project team and create as‑built drawings and software. Prepare proper documentation and/or manuals for system operation.
  • Keep management and JCI contractor or customer informed of job progress and issues.
  • Assist in performing site‑specific training for owner/operator on the total system.
  • Complete paperwork including but not limited to timesheets, expense reports, and on‑site documentation.
  • Adhere to safety standards. High degree of regard to employee and subcontractor safety.
Required
  • University degree and 1 year suggested minimum experience, or 2 year degree and 6 years suggested minimum experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with installing and/or commissioning controls systems including system‑level controllers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude.
  • Demonstrated advanced computer skills.
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $26-$37 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
