Job Description

Nordstrom Supply Chain (S.C) facilities play a vital role in the success of supply chain operations, particularly in distribution and fulfillment. The facilities are seeking a proactive Control Systems Engineer to provide automation controls and technical support for Distribution/Fulfillment Center operations, focusing on maximizing equipment reliability and operational performance of conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print and apply systems, and robotic automation devices and programs.

The Control Systems Engineer will work closely with the Supply Chain facilities team, DC-FC Startup Team, and Safety to support MHE systems optimization and project implementation. This role serves as a SME across all S.C sites, maintaining and troubleshooting material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers and various industrial networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, DZC, DMC, ASibus, motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.

Responsibilities include monitoring MHE metrics, analyzing system performance issues, providing escalation support, training, and developing control operating protocols, change management practices, and policies.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Providing regional support to all Supply Chain control systems techs/leads, setting troubleshooting standards, managing change control, and coordinating with OEMs.
  • Planning and coordinating work activities for Control Systems Techs/Leads to meet operational goals.
  • Serving as the first escalation point during and after business hours for hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Collaborating with various teams, including Operations, IT, Engineering, OEMs, and Safety, on system optimization and project implementation.
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting material handling control systems and monitoring system metrics.
  • Mentoring and training staff, developing SOPs, and leading root cause analysis and incident review processes.
  • Supporting system design, integration, and supporting new technology installations.
  • Communicating technical issues and project timelines to leadership and teams.
  • Participating in skill assessments and handling workload flexibly.
  • Travel up to 40% as required.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience (5+ years).
  • Experience with electrical theory, robotics, controls components, and automated equipment.
  • Proficiency with programming software such as RSLogix5000, FT View, and similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of robotics work cells, control networks, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of SCADA systems, KPIs, and mechanical/electrical drawings.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in controls design, logic, and programming.
  • Systems integration experience.
  • Support experience with conveyors and sortation systems from SDI, Dematic, and Honeywell.
  • Proven remote technical support skills.
