Global Advanced Metals is a leading supplier of tantalum products. We are committed to the responsible supply of tantalum and to high standards of sustainable development. We also trade tantalum on international markets and manufacture niobium metal products.
Essential Functions
- As the Controls Systems Engineering Manager, you will perform and/or provide guidance to your direct reports to perform the following: measurement and control element devices, device signals and transmission media.
- System design — conceptual design of the control and information systems, including hardware and software specifications (front end/basic engineering); and detail design and procurement of hardware systems with construction work packages.
- Development — software development and coding; hardware systems interface design, including Control System and ERP integration.
- Support selection, specification, and installation of measurement devices to analyze physical and chemical properties.
- Support selection, specification, and installation of control element devices to manipulate flows, energy, positions, speeds, and other variables.
- Design and install wiring to reliably communicate information between measurement and control devices and equipment.
- Calibrate, troubleshoot, test, repair, and improve sensing, measurement, and actuation devices.
- Support safety and hazard analyses, security analyses, and regulatory compliance assessments by identifying key issues and risks to comply with standards, policies, and regulations.
- Create detailed equipment specifications and instrument data sheets based on vendor criteria, environment, regulations, and performance requirements to support procurement and system design.
- Develop a functional description of the process control system solution (e.g., control scheme, alarms, HMI, reports) to guide development and programming.
- Design and conduct test plans for process control systems, including safety instrumented systems (SIS), using established methodologies.
- Support detailed design for projects by converting engineering concepts into purchase requisitions, drawings, panel designs, and installation details.
- Develop Human Machine Interface (HMI) in accordance with the design documents.
- Develop control configurations or programming to meet functional requirements.
- Provide support to security methodology implementation with ICT, as needed, to mitigate loss and risk.
- Participate in configuration and programming reviews to ensure compliance with functional requirements.
- Assemble documentation and user manuals to transfer knowledge to customers and end users.
- Participate in incident investigations/corrective actions using root cause analysis and participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) for PSM/RMP processes.
- Support Predictive Maintenance Programs to monitor plant condition and maximize safety and reliability, reducing downtime.
- Provide on-call support for plant emergencies or operational requests; serve as a backup for the Senior Control Systems Engineer as needed.
- Adhere to intellectual property, safety, health, environmental guidelines, and required procedures.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
- Technical knowledge of manufacturing processes (e.g., chemicals and metals processing or equivalent batch/continuous products) and control systems engineering practices; knowledge of Electrical/Chemical Engineering, Process Safety management, FMEA, and Field Instrumentation.
- Knowledge of behavior-based safety, environmental awareness, and ISO compliance.
- Knowledge of Management of Change processes and project implementation.
Additional Requirements/Qualifications
- Exposure to ERP systems (e.g., Oracle) is a plus.
- Working knowledge of ERP and Control System interfaces (e.g., Oracle and Wonderware).
- Design and programming of ERP and Control System interfaces or willingness to learn and support development of interfaces.
Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria
- B.S. in Electrical/Computer Engineering.
- Minimum 15+ years of process control systems experience with Wonderware HMI/SCADA, Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, PLC5, SLC500 Series PLCs, Web handling, and Data Historians in a suitable manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years of experience managing Controls Engineers and Electrical Technicians.
