Summary

Meta is seeking a data center Controls Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our Data Center Facility Operations team. Our data centers serve as the foundation upon which our software operates to meet the demands of our customers. The Controls SME will be a part of the facility operations team and will be responsible for the reliability and the quality of the Building Management System (BMS). The Controls Subject Matter Expert will need to have a broad understanding of control systems and equipment function and will be responsible for procedure-based control equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, training, and project oversight. The candidate will support data center daily operations and global quality/standardization initiatives and will have a working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

Controls Subject Matter Expert, Data Center Operations Responsibilities:

1. Accountable for all Building Management System (BMS) changes and enhancements at the data center as part of a global fleet
2. Diagnose and repair complex control system malfunctions requiring extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital control systems and the capacity to test and create modifications in multiple languages of system software
3. Troubleshoot and repair controls hardware, including controllers, relays, measurement devices, actuators, and associated equipment with mechanical and electrical device systems
4. Review operating equipment data for efficiency improvements, monitor all building systems for abnormal operating trends, and make optimization adjustments accordingly
5. Collaborate with other disciplines to make modifications to BMS settings to manage the building's space
6. Support cross-functional collaboration, including all local and global partners
7. Manage controls vendors while supporting site operations, including direct oversight of all system configurations and component upgrades
8. Provide QA/QC oversight of controls scope, review proposals and review programming through the commissioning process for new construction and retrofits
9. Assess all control system configurations and component upgrades to ensure system integrity is maintained and that all modifications to existing systems comply with best practices, including change control processes
10. Provide training to critical facility engineers and other cross-functional teams on control equipment, systems, procedures, and changes
11. Collaborate with the global controls team to provide feedback on global control strategies and implement global initiatives at the data center
12. Communicate all issues and upcoming control work with site management
13. Travel expectations can be significant during the first 1-3 months for initial training and onboarding. After initial onboarding, travel expectations are 10-15%. and then ongoing occasional travel for factory witness tests, collaboration, training, etc

Minimum Qualifications

1. 6+ years of control systems experience in programming development, start-up, and commissioning of complex systems - central plants, air handling units, and evaporative cooling/humidification systems
2. Bachelor’s degree or trade certification in related field and 2+ years relevant controls industry experience will be considered in lieu of 6+ years controls industry experience
3. Working knowledge of critical facility operations with experience or understanding of procedure-based work
4. Theoretical and practical understanding of control equipment and systems, with in-depth understanding of control equipment design, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and/or construction
5. Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems associated with critical environments
6. Experience in comprehending Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) drawings, sequence of operations and other control documentation, construction plans, specifications, and equipment shop drawings
7. Experience working in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience in the data center industry
2. Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) experience
3. Experience with software programming languages to include Python, PHP, and SQL
4. Information Technology (IT)/Networking certification
5. Equipment field service engineering or representative experience

Public Compensation

$90,000/year to $134,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
