Job summary

Halian | Managed Services, Recruitment Agency & Contract Staffing seeks a Control Software Engineer in Alpharetta, GA. You will design, develop, test, and commission control software for industrial and gas turbine systems, translating P&IDs and SAMA diagrams into DCS logic and HMI screens.

Candidate will implement PID controls, perform FAT, and collaborate across electrical, mechanical, and project teams. Travel for commissioning is required.

Job description

We are looking for a Control Software Engineer with strong experience in industrial automation, DCS/PLC, and control systems to support the design, development, testing, and commissioning of control software for industrial and gas turbine systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, configure, and test control software for industrial/gas turbine control systems
• Translate SAMA diagrams, P&IDs, and process narratives into DCS control logic and HMI screens
• Develop and implement PID controls, control algorithms, and sequencing logic
• Perform software testing, validation simulation, and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
• Troubleshoot control system and software issues
• Support commissioning, startup, and customer/site activities
• Participate in technical and design review meetings
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, controls, and project engineering teams

Required Skills

• Strong background in DCS/PLC and industrial automation
• Knowledge of control theory, PID control, and control logic
• Experience with HMI/SCADA systems
• Ability to read and work with P&IDs, SAMA diagrams, and process documentation
• Programming experience with C, C++, MATLAB, and/or Python
• Experience with industrial testing, troubleshooting, and system validation
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Willingness to travel for commissioning and customer support

Preferred Experience

• Turbine governor and protection systems
• Turbine startup/shutdown sequences
• Gas turbine simulation and closed-loop testing
• Hydraulic valve controls, servo systems, and LVDTs
• Power generation / energy industry experience
• Experience with turbine auxiliary systems such as lube oil, control oil, and turning gear

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

Travel: Some travel required for commissioning and customer support

We are especially interested in engineers with a strong controls/software + industrial automation background. Direct gas turbine experience is a strong plus but not required.
