Qualifications

  • 4+ years managing large-scale mechanical, electrical, and controls projects.
  • 4+ years vendor management for controls and project execution.
  • 3+ years deployment of large electrical and mechanical controls systems.
  • 4+ years scheduling for complex mission-critical projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and track team goals; report status to stakeholders.
  • Develop launch plans for new hires; identify team needs.
  • Install, program, and troubleshoot BMS/EPMS or industrial controls.
  • Read electrical diagrams and control circuits; assure building operations.
  • Define project scope from customer needs and design intent.
  • Manage engineering to align with customer requirements and design.
  • Review specifications and implement in the work environment.
  • Develop drawings for control panels, power distribution, and wiring.
  • Create PLC/DCS logic diagrams for complex devices.
  • Inspect, test, and commission facility systems; provide internal support.
  • Coordinate work internally and with other departments; ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

The Data Center Capacity Delivery team is looking for exceptional individuals to join our organization as Controls Manager, responsible for the building automation systems and electrical power monitoring system (BMS/EPMS) deployment and service within Amazon data centers. The ideal candidate will have experience managing a local or remotely located team of highly technically skilled individuals. The candidate will possess a industrial Controls System, project/construction management, mechanical, electrical or technology background that enables him/her to undertake the challenges of sophisticated controls platforms and a demonstrated ability to think broadly and strategically in aligning building controls and automation with the larger objectives of the business.

Key job responsibilities
  • Able to implement and track team goals, report the status of ongoing projects upwards
  • Experienced interviewer, able to develop launch plans for new hires, and identify team needs
  • Experienced in installation, programming, and troubleshooting of BMS/EPMS systems and/or industrial controls systems
  • Strong writing skills, able to articulate thoughts clearly and concisely
  • Understanding of: electrical diagrams, control diagrams, building operations, control circuits, industrial HVAC.
  • Ability to ascertain customer needs to help develop project scope and specifications
  • Ability to manage project engineering to determine the scope of work relative to the design intent of the customer needs
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications and implementing those specifications as they apply the work environment
  • Experience in development of drawings for control panels, power distribution, junction boxes. Included in the drawings are the general arrangement, internal layout, schematics and interconnection and wire diagrams
  • Experience developing logic diagrams in the International Automation format for complex logic devices such as Programmable Logical Controller and Distributed Control System
  • Experience performing inspects, testing, and commission of the facility systems
  • Provide technical assistance as needed to internal customers
  • Coordinate project work internally within the department and externally with other departments to ensure on‑time completion of projects within budget
Basic Qualifications
  • Experience operating a mission-critical team or product
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent engineering science plus 8+ years of relevant controls experience, OR 12+ years of relevant controls experience in lieu of a degree
  • 3+ years of experience directly managing, mentoring, leading, and coaching teams of controls professionals
  • 3+ years of experience hiring, promoting, disciplining, and developing teams of controls professionals
  • 4+ years of experience in controls management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and controls systems
  • 4+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, and RFI and submittal tracking) associated with controls and project execution
  • 3+ years of experience managing deployment of complex electrical and mechanical controls systems, including large scale power distribution or generation, and cooling systems
  • 4+ years of experience in developing, monitoring, and maintaining critical path master and micro project schedules for complex large-scale mission critical projects
  • Experience working with cross function teams to deliver complex construction projects
Preferred Qualifications
  • MS in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or other science)
  • 6+ Yrs. directly managing, mentoring, leading, and coaching teams of controls professionals
  • 8+ Yrs. Exp. Project Management and Vendor Management
  • 3+ Yrs. Exp. In Data Center system-level architecture and electrical engineering principals
  • 3+ Yrs. Exp. In Data Center system-level architecture and mechanical engineering principals
  • Prior AWS/Amazon experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
