CPG is seeking a Controls & Integration Engineer IV in Houston, TX to design, implement and support data center control systems. Responsibilities include SCADA/automation design, PLC/RTU/HMI configuration, and commissioning of complex control solutions for mission critical environments.

Travel up to 25% is required. Requires 8+ years in controls engineering, with experience in switchgear, metering, SCADA and related standards. Certifications in PLC/SCADA platforms are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering with 8 years field experience.
  • Associate degree in mechanical or electrical field with 10 years field experience.
  • High school diploma with 12 years field experience.
  • 5 years designing and servicing controls for switchgear, substations, metering and SCADA integration and testing.
  • Experience reading electrical and control schematics.
  • Startup, configuration and calibration of control systems.
  • Testing and troubleshooting control and protection systems.
  • Experience using basic electrical hand tools.
  • Experience with 3 phase power systems, protection & control schemes, test equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Design / Engineering and develop design documents for SCADA/Automation projects.
  • Develop narratives and sequences of operations; create subsystem designs.
  • Perform QA/QC and reviews of designs; prepare testing procedures.
  • Program, configure and troubleshoot PLCs, RTUs, and HMI systems.
  • Test, deploy and commission deployed systems; write test reports.
  • Travel up to 25% to client sites per project needs.

TITLE: CONTROLS & INTEGRATION ENGINEER IV

LOCATION: Houston, TX

POSITION SUMMARY

Controls Engineers are responsible for designing, developing, installing, and maintaining equipment used to monitor and control systems, equipment and processes. They work in various industries including building management systems, power system automation and protection systems. Controls engineers are technical experts in areas such as advanced process control, instrumentation, distributed control systems, PLCs, and SCADA systems. Controls engineers use these skills to design and implement solutions to our customer's complex needs.

Specific areas of expertise for this position include power chain monitoring and control systems in Data Centers and /or mission critical environments. Experience in Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) and field device configuration such as gateways, PLC, Meters, Relays, and SCAD/HMI software.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design / Engineering
  • Generates design documents for SCADA/Automation projects
  • Develops design documents narratives
  • Performs requirements analysis
  • Develops Sequence of Operations / System Functional Documentation
  • Create Subsystem Designs (CAD / Panels / Layouts / Wiring / SCADA Screens / Hardware / Communications)
  • Develops Specifications
  • Performs QA/QC and technical reviews of designs
  • Plans and Design Procedures and Equipment for Integrated Systems Factory Testing
  • Comment Resolution
  • Reviews and comments on 3rd party design documents for SCADA/Automation projects in support of large programs
  • Review design documents narratives
  • Performs performance and design scope gap analysis
  • Reviews Sequence of Operations / System Functional Documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Review Subsystem Designs (CAD / Panels / Layouts / Wiring / SCADA Screens / Hardware / Communications) for project compliance
  • Review, understand and confirm project specifications are met
  • Performs QA/QC tasks related to controls design and installation
  • Organize, supervise testing plans and procedures for Integrated Systems Factory TestingDrive QA/QC resolution
  • Programming
  • Architect and lead programming / configuration team efforts for complex automation and SCADA applications.
  • Program / Configure / troubleshoot PLCs, RTUs, and/or HMI systems
  • Testing / Troubleshooting / Deployment / Commissioning
  • Author test plans
  • Leads / supervises testing activities
  • Author testing / commissioning procedures
  • Preparation of test reports
  • Originates test procedures
  • Commissioning of deployed systems
  • Development of test equipment and simulation devices
  • Perform Factory and Field Testing
  • Maintenance
  • Perform troubleshooting on service calls to existing and legacy system operators
  • Managerial Responsibilities
  • Estimates
  • Leads proposal efforts (Research / Cost Estimates / Proposal Documents) for medium to large projects
  • Works with relevant stakeholders to review scope of project
  • Conducts any surveys, inspections, tours, etc. of client sites, as required
  • Prepares cost estimates and supporting documents for small projects
  • Evaluation and pricing of change orders

  • Actively follows emerging technical trends and contributes to Division leadership and guidance in area of practice
  • Personnel Management
  • Assigns technical tasks to engineers and administrative staff in support of projects
  • Assigns technical tasks and coordinates with entry-level engineers
  • Assigns tasks and coordinates with Technical Staff
  • Provides technical direction and on-the-job training to drafters, engineering technicians, and less experienced engineers.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering and 8 years field experience
  • Associate degree in mechanical or electrical field and 10 years field experience
  • High school diploma and 12 years field experience
  • 5 years’ experience with designing and servicing controls systems for switchgear, substations, metering and SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration- Automation equipment installation and testing
  • Experience in reading electrical and control schematics
  • Experience in control system startup, configuration, and calibration
  • Experience in testing and troubleshooting control and protection systems
  • Experience using basic electrical and hand tools
  • Experience using testing, calibration, or industry-specific tools and software
  • Experience testing, reading/verifying all voltage and current inputs to relays; verifying all metering (local and SCADA); calibrating all relays; trip testing (local and SCADA); verifying all alarms (local and SCADA); verifying all alarms (local and SCADA); verifying all function switches, etc.
  • Experience with 3 phase power systems; power system protection & control schemes; test equipment; test equipment software

TRAVEL

Position may require around 25% out of town travel.

CITIZENSHIP

Computer Skills:

  • Experience in designing OT and IT networking technologies and topologies
  • Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing OT and IT networks and protocols
  • Experience in CAD/CAE Software (Visio, AutoCAD)
  • Experience in schedule management software
  • Standard Office Software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access etc.)

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Certification in one or more PLC / Automation Platform, such as: Niagara N4, Schneider, Rockwell, Siemens, etc.
  • Certification in one or more SCADA platform, such as: Iconics, Ignition, etc.
  • Design Build Institute of America (DBIA)
  • Certified SCADA Security Architect (CSSA)
  • Certified Automation Professional (CAP)
