Job summary

Pacific Fusion in California is seeking a Controls Hardware Engineer to shape our main control system for a pulser-driven inertial fusion project. You will translate requirements into hardware designs, schematics, and software interfaces, collaborating with cross-functional teams.

The role emphasizes safety, reliability, and compliance with NFPA 70/70E/79 and IEC 61511, with opportunities to lead hardware design efforts and advance from design to deployment across 24VDC and 480VAC subsystems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial automation or control system design.
  • Proficiency with PLC-based systems.
  • Experience with VFDs, servo drives, and motion control.
  • Familiarity with systems operating at 24VDC and 480VAC.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 70/70E/79 and functional safety (IEC 61511) standards.

Responsibilities

  • Define and document control system requirements with cross-functional teams.
  • Design architectures for safety-critical and utility systems.
  • Create electrical schematics, panels, and wiring diagrams.
  • Develop PLC programs and perform system integration testing.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA and SIS/IEC standards.
  • Lead technical collaboration with fabrication, installation, and operations.
