Job summary

Dematic Corp. in Milwaukee, WI, seeks a Controls/Electrical Engineer to lead large Special Technologies projects (DMS & AMR) from concept through completion. The role emphasizes budgets, scheduling, staffing, and risk management while coordinating with multiple teams across hardware, software, and safety reviews.

You will validate drawings, PLC code, and emulation, manage third-party inputs, and drive on-site commissioning. Expect ~50% travel to sites domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Mechanical Engineering required.
• 3 years' experience with AutoCAD Electrical, Siemens TIA Portal, Demo3D Emulation, and MS Office.
• Approximately 50% travel to customer sites; located at Dematic Corp. in Wauwatosa, WI.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage Special Technologies projects (DMS & AMR) end-to-end, including budgets.
• Coordinate reviews, quotes, tasks, staffing, and implementation plans.
• Track project finances, document risks, overruns, and mitigate risks.
• Identify and coordinate all required third party contacts; ensure Standard Work and department processes are followed.
• Check and approve system drawings; verify DMS/AMR designs and interfaces; ensure compliance to standards and customer specs.
• Identify scan points and barcode requirements; coordinate vendor requirements.
• Coordinate mounting brackets with Installation and other departments.
• Verify PLC code and emulation for various areas; document, program, and test host interfaces; lead commissioning efforts on-site.

The base pay range for this role is estimated to be $117,312 - $140,000 at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined by various factors such as work location, education, experience, knowledge, and skills.

What You Will Do in This Role:

• Lead multiple Special Technologies projects (DMS & AMR) from start to finish. Responsible for project budgets and financial forecasting.

• Participate in schedule review, aligning ME/CE segments; dissect quotes; separate the hours of a project into tasks required to complete the project; schedule and facilitate Hardware, Software, Safety and System Tech reviews; develop staffing plans; develop implementation plans

• Track project financials, communicate and document project risks, overruns, and underruns to mitigate risk

• identify and coordinate all required third party contacts; ensure Standard Work and department processes (such as the use of checklists) are followed

• Check and approve all system drawings; Verify the design of DMS conveyor, lifts, and shuttles as well as AMR vehicle layouts and associated interfaces; check drawings and BOM for compliance to department standards and customer specifications; develop composite for cabinet location and network routing; define the entire safety system design approach;

• identify all scan points and barcode requirements; coordinate scanner vendor requirements and information on drawings

• Identify special mounting or brackets that are required for system and coordinate these needs with Installation, Mechanical Engineering, and other departments

• Verify PLC code and emulation for a basic, advanced, and complex areas; document, program, and test host interfaces; develop emulation checklist; schedule pre-commissioning meetings; develop commissioning checklist; verify final commissioning plan from PM for concerns; lead commissioning efforts on-site; and assist other engineers in hardware and software troubleshooting techniques?

What We Are Looking For:

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 4 years' experience as a Controls Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Mechatronics Engineer, or closely related occupation.

• Also requires 3 years' experience with AutoCAD Electrical; Siemens TIA Portal Programming Software; Demo3D Emulation Software; and MS Office.

• Approximately 50% domestic and international travel to various unanticipated customer sites. Located at Dematic Corp. in Wauwatosa, WI.
