Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking a CSA engineer to advance LPRE control algorithms and simulation models. You will interface with engine controllers, software, HIL, and vehicle teams to guide design and verification throughout the development lifecycle.

Applicants should have a strong background in transient modeling and control systems, with MATLAB/Simulink proficiency and clear communication of technical results to leadership. Relocation support may be provided.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering (or related).
  • 5+ years in transient system modeling and control algorithm development for complex engineering systems.

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight. As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will impact the development and maturation of Liquid Propulsion Rocket Engine (LPRE) control algorithms and simulation models. As a control and system analysis (CSA) engineer, your input and guidance will affect LPRE control system design at all stages of the development lifecycle.

Ability to interface and coordinate resources with engine controller hardware, engine controller software, hardware in the loop (HIL), and vehicle control/simulation teams is imperative. An insistence on high standards is required to improve engine control system models based on system performance, mission requirements, program targets and constraints. There will be opportunities for contribution to engine control and system analysis technology roadmap and strategy formulation, as well as technical and professional mentorship for junior team members.

Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in relevant engineering subject area (aerospace or mechanical desired)
  • 5+ years of experience in transient system modeling of and control algorithm development for complex engineering systems
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink
  • Interpersonal skills and proven track record to work on a team
  • Ability to learn and work with technical guidance on engine modeling, simulation, and control system analysis, and balance several tasks at one time
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical analysis results to other teams and leadership
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with MATLAB Embedded Coder
  • Basic knowledge of Git / GitLab
  • Familiarity with DO-178C, DO-330, and DO-331
  • Basic configuration management experience
  • Familiarity with MATLAB Test Manager
  • Experience with hydraulic analysis and control design of hydraulic systems

Base Pay Range for: WA applicants is $164,652.00 - $230,512.80. Other site ranges may differ.
