Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for an Controls Engineer II at BTB Solutions, based in Ridgefield, WA. The role involves the design, development, and implementation of control systems, including working with robotics, electrical engineering, and process control. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting complex automation systems, optimizing system performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve technical challenges and ensure operational excellence. You will independently design, program, and commission hardware and software for complex control systems. This role operates on a hybrid schedule, requiring you to live within a 1-hour commute of our Ridgefield, WA shop for meetings, testing, and FAT support.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Design: Architect industrial control systems from scratch or modify and optimize legacy designs to meet new production requirements.
  • Core Programming: Write and debug structured, reliable code for PLCs and HMIs across major industry platforms.
  • Robotics & Motion: Program industrial robotic systems and configure multi-axis motion profiles and servo drives.
  • Safety Integration: Design and program dedicated safety controllers, ensuring all systems comply with relevant industry risk-assessment standards.
  • Hardware Engineering: Design electrical control panels, schematics, and loops using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • System Commissioning: Lead on-site startup, network architecture configuration, and system-level troubleshooting.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Location: Must reside within a 1-hour driving radius of Ridgefield, WA.
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in industrial automation and controls engineering.
  • Design Background: Proven experience building new control systems from scratch and reverse-engineering/modifying existing systems.
  • Programming: Strong working knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, Safety Controllers, and Industrial Robots (e.g., Rockwell Automation, Kawasaki, Siemens, Fanuc).
  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 25% for on-site commissioning and client support, depending on project needs.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Citizenship: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
