Job summary

Vertiv is seeking a Controls Engineer to lead FMS/BMS design across projects from pre‑sales through commissioning. You will create optimized control schemes using PLCs/relays, generate BOMs, and ensure designs meet quality and budget requirements.

The role involves coordinating with third‑party suppliers and external partners, reviewing submittals, and ensuring code compliance. Strong documentation, communication, and problem‑solving skills are essential for successful project delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• PE license – optional.
• Minimum 4 years of Controls Engineering experience.
• Knowledge of FMS/BMS design concepts, installation, and use.
• Knowledge of local, state, & federal codes governing FMS/BMS installations.
• AutoDesk suite: AutoCAD and Revit.
• Proven experience with Microsoft Office Applications.
• Experience reading and interpreting modular construction drawings and equipment specifications.
• Ability to research new designs, technologies and construction methods for data center equipment.
• Creative and cost‑reduction minded with no compromise on quality.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Controls Engineer on assigned projects from pre-sales to final commissioning.
• Create designs that meet Vertiv quality requirements and budgets.
• Design optimal FMS/BMS solutions per customer specs.
• Collaborate with 3rd party suppliers to design control schemes using PLCs/relays.
• Generate bills of material and modify standard assemblies as needed.
• Familiar with Modbus, SNMP, TCP/IP, RS-485, and Ethernet interfaces.
• Coordinate with contractors and architects to produce construction documentation.
• Work with Vertiv business units and vendors to specify BMS equipment.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal codes.
• Review and approve FMS/BMS product submittals.
• Define project scope and provide technical support during construction.
• Quality control during FMS/BMS integration and on-site support.
• Support commissioning teams to test and validate installations.
• Travel to sites for reviews and field engineering support.
• Provide creative, out-of-the-box solutions to customers.
