Qualifications

Controls Engineer | Data Center & Critical Power | $150k - $165k

Are you a Controls Engineer with strong PLC, HMI, SCADA, and automation experience looking to work on complex critical infrastructure projects?

My client is seeking a Controls Engineer to lead the development, programming, and support of control systems across their products and projects. This is a hands‑on engineering role focused on delivering safe, reliable, and efficient automation solutions within a fast‑paced environment.

You’ll work closely with engineering, design, manufacturing, customers, suppliers, and external partners to develop control solutions and troubleshoot technical challenges from design through to delivery.

What You'll Do:

• Design, develop, and support PLC and HMI programming for complex control systems
• Review customer requirements and project specifications and translate them into effective technical solutions
• Support the development and integration of control systems across electrical and critical power equipment
• Troubleshoot and resolve design, manufacturing, quality, and field issues
• Work closely with engineering and cross‑functional teams to keep projects on schedule and within budget
• Develop technical documentation, procedures, work instructions, and training materials
• Support customer projects from an engineering and technical perspective
• Provide field support and occasional domestic travel when required
• Stay up to date with emerging automation, controls, and industrial technologies
• Contribute to continuous improvement and new product development initiatives

Ideal Background:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of Controls Engineering, Automation, or related experience
• Strong hands‑on experience with PLC and HMI programming
• Working knowledge of SCADA and industrial communication protocols, including Modbus and Ethernet‑based protocols
• Experience coordinating technical aspects of customer projects
• Ability to interpret customer requirements and develop practical control solutions
• Experience with technical proposals, estimates, or project costing
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills

Preferred Background:

• Experience with SCADA, system integration, or industrial automation platforms
• Exposure to protective relays, automation devices, or configuration softwareUnderstanding of electrical, mechanical, and software engineering principles
• Experience within data centers, critical power, energy storage, renewable energy, utilities, or other mission‑critical environments
• Experience working with complex power or electrical systems is highly desirable
