Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. is seeking a Controls Engineer for the Colocation Regional Engineering (AMER) team to ensure reliability and safety of colocation data centers.

The role focuses on collaborating with business teams and vendors to identify, document, and resolve operational/design deficiencies across site capabilities. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission-critical facilities.
  • 4+ years of commissioning experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience coordinating projects with multiple teams or vendors.
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the control team to develop and implement new and existing standards.
  • Review design and equipment submittals for controls in new Colo Data Centers to ensure consistent standards.
  • Review risks within BMS/EPMS for in-flight Colo Data Centers.
  • Review controls drawings, wiring diagrams, logic programming, and GUI for risks.
  • Approve changes to site control infrastructure per AWS Data Center standards and document deviations.
  • Provide feedback on Colo controls sequence of operation and design.
  • Support upgrades and design solutions to add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot, perform RCA, and document corrective actions for control equipment failures.
  • Conduct site audits of Colo Data Centers and report risks with mitigations.
  • Support construction, commissioning, and turnover for new projects.
  • Lead internal training and knowledge sharing on Colo controls.
  • Improve controls-related processes and quick reference guides.

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for designing, planning, delivering, and operating all AWS global infrastructure. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability and safety of colocation data centers by working with business teams and vendors to identify, document, and resolve operational/design deficiencies across the site’s capabilities.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the control team of DCE Colocation Design and Standards (CoDeS) to develop and implement new and existing standards.
  • Perform design and equipment submittal review for Controls for new Colo Data Centers in the region to ensure consistent standards across Colocation Data Centers and AWS owned sites.
  • Review and identify risks within the scope of Building Management System (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) for in‑flight AWS Colo Data Centers.
  • Review automation controls drawings and wiring diagrams, controls logic programming, and graphical user interface to identify risks.
  • Approve proposed changes to the site‑specific control infrastructure against AWS Data Center standards, documenting accepted deviations when appropriate.
  • Review Colo and Hybrid controls sequence of operation and provide feedback to design.
  • Support design for existing Colo Data Center control system upgrades and design solutions to add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures related to control equipment.
  • Conduct site audits of Colo Data Centers, producing reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediation.
  • Support construction, commissioning, and turnover for Controls for any new construction projects.
  • Lead internal team training and knowledge sharing sessions on Colo controls.
  • Improve controls‑related processes, including quick reference guides for the team.
Basic Qualifications
  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission‑critical facilities (e.g., data centers, power generation, oil and gas).
  • 4+ years of commissioning experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
  • Experience coordinating projects with multiple teams or vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • Experience with building codes and regional regulations.
  • Experience moving design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment to mass production.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with design, configuration, or servicing of products such as Siemens Apogee, Honeywell Building Controls, Schneider Electric PowerLogic/Struxureware, Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk, Tridium Niagara, Eaton Foreseer, ABB C953, Johnson Controls Metasys.
Salary & Benefits

Base Salary: $116,800.00 – $160,000.00 USD annually (Mesa, AZ and Tampa, AZ). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location and may include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
