Job summary

General Motors in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a highly capable Controls Engineer to lead automation project execution and plant-floor support. You will design, implement, and troubleshoot electrical control systems, and drive uptime improvements across shifts.

The role requires 3+ years in manufacturing controls, a engineering degree or equivalent experience, and hands-on expertise with Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, Siemens Step 7, and Siemens 840D systems.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' experience as a Controls Engineer in manufacturing.
• Bachelor's or equivalent engineering degree preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs and Ethernet/IP.
• Experience with vision, robotics, and motion control technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and troubleshoot electrical control systems.
• Lead design, integration, installation, and continuous improvement of equipment.
• Provide hands-on plant-floor support during B & C shifts.
• Respond to faults, perform root-cause analysis, implement fixes.
• Maintain control documentation and electrical schematics.
• Support equipment build, runoff, and buyoff processes.
• Provide technical direction to vendors and integrators.
• Contribute to standardized control architectures across the plant.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering to boost uptime.
