Job summary

NSG Group in Shelbyville, IN, is seeking an Automation Engineer to lead PLC, robotics, and machine-vision projects on the production floor. You'll configure cells, program ABB/Fanuc robotics, and upgrade equipment across shifts to support a 24/7 operation.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Electrical Engineering or CS, 3+ years in manufacturing, and strong PLC/HMI skills. A collaborative, safety‑minded approach is essential.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science Engineering.
• 3+ years of manufacturing experience.
• Proficiency in PLC programming, robotics, machine vision and CAD.
• Experience programming ABB or Fanuc robotics.
• Strong PLC/HMI programming skills.

Responsibilities

• Program PLCs, HMIs, robots and PCs as needed.
• Configure systems and databases for new cells and parts.
• Modify and upgrade production equipment.
• Coordinate project controls to meet timing, quality, and cost targets.
• Perform hands-on programming/debug/troubleshooting of automation equipment.
• Provide trouble shooting assistance to production and maintenance teams.
• Design new equipment or redesign existing equipment and coordinate fabrication, assembly, installation, and startup.
• Ensure equipment and layouts comply with local and national codes.
• Create and maintain all written software instructions.

Job description

Work Environment:

This position is based full-time at the Shelbyville, IN manufacturing facility, with regular presence required on the production floor across all shifts, including periodic off-shift, weekend, and holiday coverage to support a 24/7 operation. The plant environment includes exposure to manufacturing conditions typical of automotive glass processing, including heat (tempering/furnace areas), noise, glass handling, forklift and overhead crane traffic, and use of personal protective equipment (safety glasses, hearing protection, cut-resistant gloves, steel-toed footwear) in designated areas. The role requires the physical ability to walk, stand, and move throughout the facility for extended periods, climb stairs/platforms, and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. Office time is spent in a standard plant administration setting.

Essential Functions:

• Provide safe, reliable, ergonomic systems and machines.
• Configure systems and database settings for new cells and parts for traceable content.
• Program PLCs, barcode readers, HMIs, Robots, and PCs as necessary.
• Modify and upgrade as required existing production equipment.
• Help develop and maintain cost effective general specifications and standards for machine controls and programming.
• Coordinate all project controls/electrical activities to ensure that project timing, quality, and cost targets are attained.
• Perform hands‑on programming/debug/troubleshooting of numerous types of automation equipment.

• Provide analysis, evaluation and review of problems regarding automation, advanced methods and equipment, and material handling.
• Provide alternative solutions to anticipated or actual technical and/or business‑related manufacturing problems.
• Develop safeguards and improve team member safety through process improvements.
• Conduct system / equipment training for plant and other personnel as required.
• Provide trouble shooting assistance to production and maintenance team members.
• Design new equipment or redesign existing equipment, and coordinate its fabrication, assembly, installation, and startup.
• Ensure equipment and layouts are compliant with local and national codes.
• Responsible for creating and maintaining all written software program instructions.
• Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles
• Other duties as assigned by manager

Qualifications Required:

Salary Range depending on experience - $100,000-$125,000 annually

Core Hours: Day Shift hours - flexible start time - 7am-9am - Monday/Friday
