Job summary

Ascential Technologies is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to design and lead control system concepts for complex machinery in Minnesota. You will collaborate with engineering teams, provide on-site installation support, and train customers to ensure successful project outcomes.

The role requires leadership, innovation, and a detail-oriented approach, with 7+ years in controls engineering including vision systems and machine safety.

Qualifications

  • 7 years controls engineering experience including vision systems and machine safety.
  • Proven ability to design complex control concepts and hardware.
  • Experience with PackML/ISA-88 and GAMP-regulated environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead control system concepts for complex projects.
  • Provide on-site installation support and customer training.
  • Mentor junior engineers and conduct code/design reviews.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure project alignment.
  • Estimate control system costs for quotations with Applications team.

Job Details
Technical Responsibilities
  • Technical Skills: Deep expertise in multiple areas. Capable of designing complex systems.
  • Problem-Solving: Handles challenging issues and provides innovative solutions.
  • Project Involvement: Leads major project components. Balances technical work and project coordination.
  • Develop control concepts and set control direction on complex projects.
  • Develop cost-effective control systems for custom machinery, including hardware design, programming, safety analysis, and technical documentation.
  • Analyze technical challenges and devise creative solutions by drawing on available knowledge and resources.
  • Provide guidance and support for shop personnel during the electrical assembly of control systems and machines.
  • Lead and participate in control system debug and provide on-site installation and customer training.
  • Provide initial estimates of control system costs for quotations, based on understanding of mechanical concept and customer requirements. Cooperate with the Applications Engineering team to evaluate project feasibility.
Personal Responsibilities
  • Collaboration: Works across teams and disciplines to ensure alignment.
  • Mentorship: Actively mentors junior engineers. Conducts code/design reviews.
  • Work proactively and independently to complete projects on time and within budget.
  • Motivate self and others in a positive and professional manner.
  • Delegate appropriately to engineering support and shop personnel.
  • Understand and effectively communicate project status and potential obstacles to success.
  • Effectively communicate with customers and vendors to ensure successful project completion.
  • Lead project teams as required.

  • Keep current with new technology, engineering methods, and standards within the automation industry.
  • Participate in and lead the implementation of new engineering methods and technologies.

  • Participate in training and mentoring of other employees as appropriate.
Salary

Salary: $130,000
