Job summary

Huhtamaki Hammond, Indiana plant is seeking a Controls Engineer to troubleshoot and optimize plant control systems, including PLCs, VFDs, I/O, sensors, and HMIs. You will work closely with the engineering team to maintain safe, compliant operations.

Must have 1–3 years of experience, a degree in engineering, and familiarity with Allen-Bradley and Beckhoff systems. This full-time role offers hands-on automation work and opportunities to support capital projects.

• Develop training materials for maintenance technicians.

• Plan weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance activities for controls and automation.

It’s every one of us working together.We offer a place where you can feel safe, be supported, and make an impact so we can all focus on the future together.**Essential Functions*** Troubleshoot plant control systems including PLCs, VFDs, I/O hardware, sensors, HMIs, communication networks, DCS systems, and automation software—through direct, hands-on involvement and by collaborating with internal and external resources.* Maintain compliance with internal and external safety and environmental regulations, as well as various Huhtamaki compliance standards.* Reports to the Engineering Manager to support the achievement of plant goals and objectives.* Recommend improvements and optimizations for automation systems.* Develops training materials for technical skills development for plant electricians and instrumentation technicians.* Update control system drawings and documentation, ensuring hard copies are maintained in control panels and electronic copies are saved and updated on the company network.* Conduct planning for weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance activities related to controls & automation systems.* Supports annual capital project planning and execution for the Hammond plant.**Job Qualifications***Required** Minimum one to three years of experience in the controls & automation field* Bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field.* Working knowledge of PLC systems including programming and troubleshooting*Preferred** Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.* Proficiency with Allen-Bradley automation systems and software including Factory Talk, ControlLogix, RS Logix; also, Rockwell DCS, Plant PAX, HMI’s* Proficiency with Beckhoff PLC systems.* Minimum 3 years’ experience within a manufacturing environment.**Environment*** Requires walking (approximately 10% of the time), standing (55%), and sitting (35%).* Duties may involve twisting, bending/stooping, squatting/kneeling, and reaching above, at, and below shoulder level.* Must be able to stand for extended periods, as required by circumstances in the plant.* Frequently utilizes hands and fingers for handling and grasping objects and must be able to reach with hands and arms.* Involves climbing ladders or stairs and maintaining balance* At times will require stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, and hearing.* Requires sufficient visual acuity, the ability to move throughout the facility, and have agility and dexterity.* May occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.* Required personal protective equipment (PPE) includes safety glasses, safety toe shoes, hearing protection, and a bump cap or hard hat as applicable.* Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) require the use of beard nets, hair nets, and the prohibition of jewelry including jewelry worn for exposed body piercings and other applicable cleanliness standards.Join us.
