Job summary

Actalent in Burlington, NC is seeking a Controls Engineer to lead design, programming, integration, and troubleshooting of automated manufacturing systems. The role serves as the site controls and automation SME, providing advanced technical support to plant and maintenance teams.

You will manage projects from concept to commissioning, drive reliability improvements, and balance safety, quality and cost. A Bachelor's in engineering and 5+ years of controls experience are required.

• 5+ years of controls engineering experience.
• 3+ years of manufacturing experience.
• 3+ years of maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and program automation solutions using PLC and SCADA technologies.
• Configure, support, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, SCADA, DCS, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Lead hardware and software integration for automated manufacturing equipment.
• Source, specify, and implement instrumentation and controls with suppliers.
• Support production equipment while balancing safety, quality, service and profitability.
• Maintain CAD files, drawings, schematics, controls documentation, and records.
• Perform root-cause analysis on maintenance and production losses and apply countermeasures.
• Develop preventive-maintenance tasks and lead continuous-improvement to improve reliability.
• Train operators and support autonomous-maintenance practices.
• Prepare project plans, schedules, and capital-expenditure inputs.
• Execute concurrent capital projects from concept through commissioning and handoff.
• Coordinate resources and proposed changes through change-management processes.

Job description

Job Title: Controls Engineer Job Description The Controls Engineer will lead the design, programming, integration, troubleshooting, and reliability of automated manufacturing systems. This individual will provide advanced technical support to plant and maintenance personnel and act as the facilitys controls and automation subject-matter expert.

Responsibilities

- Design and program automation solutions using PLC and SCADA technologies.
- Configure, support, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, SCADA, DCS, instrumentation, and associated control systems.
- Lead hardware and software integration for automated manufacturing equipment.
- Work with equipment and component suppliers to source, specify, and implement instrumentation and controls.
- Support production equipment while balancing safety, product quality, service, and profitability.
- Maintain CAD files, drawings, schematics, controls documentation, and other engineering records.
- Perform root-cause analysis on maintenance and production losses and implement sustainable countermeasures.
- Develop preventive-maintenance tasks and lead continuous-improvement initiatives that improve reliability.
- Train operators and support autonomous-maintenance practices.
- Prepare project plans, schedules, and capital-expenditure inputs.
- Execute concurrent capital projects from initial concept through commissioning and handoff.
- Coordinate resources and proposed equipment or process changes through the sites change-management process.

Essential Skills

- Proficiency in PLC programming, SCADA, and HMI technologies.
- Strong experience in automation and controls engineering.
- Experience in electrical systems and troubleshooting.
- Ability to lead projects from concept to completion.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Five or more years of controls engineering experience.
- At least three years of manufacturing experience.
- At least three years of maintenance experience.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Burlington, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $110000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. % Bonus
