Job summary

Excelitas Technologies Corp. in Boulder, CO is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to maintain automated manufacturing tools and drive enhancements in coating and assembly operations. Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering, Physics, or other equivalent technical field.
  • MS in Engineering, Physics, or applicable field preferred.
  • 8+ years of industry experience.
  • Six sigma green or black belt a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams.
  • Identification of and business case development of automation equipment.
  • Familiarity with robotics, motions controls, and vision systems with application in a high-mix manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with PLC programming.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and pertinent specifications related to coated precision optics and provide detailed technical feedback regarding coating designs, feasibility, and manufacturability.
  • Excellent quantitative skills including ability to analyze complex data and apply quality tools.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, statistical tools, ERP, and databases such as PLM tools and custom SQL applications.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and present information to managers and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Support current implementations of automated manufacturing equipment, ensuring training, preventive maintenance, and uptime meet site needs.
  • Evaluate current manufacturing practices to improve repeatability, cycle times, yields, and costs.
  • Develop business cases to drive automation capital spending.
  • Identify and foster supplier relationships to deploy automation and maintain high equipment utilization.
  • Ensure safety and quality standards compliance with EHS and Quality teams (ISO14001/45001, ISO9001).
  • Adhere to project timelines and budgets with aligned milestones, deliverables, and resources.
  • Develop and drive IQOQPQ activities with Engineering, Safety, and Quality.

We are presently seeking a Controls Engineer that be responsible for maintaining automated manufacturing tools, identifying opportunities for enhanced operational efficiency, and implementation of new automated manufacturing tools supporting optical fabrication, coating, and assembly activities.


Main responsibilities:



  • Support of current implementations of automated manufacturing equipment deployed, ensuring user training, preventative maintenance, and machine uptime meet site needs

  • Evaluate current manufacturing practices, identifying opportunities leveraging automation to improve repeatability, reduce cycle times, improve yields, and reduce costs

  • Develop business cases and justifications to drive capital spending on automation efforts

  • Identify and foster relationships with suppliers to deploy automation and provide ongoing service to ensure overall equipment utilization remains high throughout the useful life

  • Ensure systems comply with safety and quality standards, working closely with site EHS team to conform with ISO14001 and ISO45001 and the Quality team to conform to ISO9001

  • Adhere to project timelines and budgets ensuring scope, milestones, deliverables, and resources are aligned and understood at project inception

  • Develop and drive Installation, Operational, and Production Qualification (IQOQPQ) activities in conjunction with Engineering, Safety, and Quality


Requirements:



  • BS in Engineering, Physics, or other equivalent technical field required.

  • MS in Engineering, Physics, or applicable fieldpreferred.

  • 8+ years of industry experience

  • Six sigma green or black belt a plus.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with and influence members of cross-functional teams coupled with the ability to collaborate with others in a team environment.

  • Identification ofand business case development of automation equipment

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office, statistical tools, ERP, and databases such as product lifecycle management tools and custom SQL applications.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, peers, and the general public.

Pay Range: $130,000 - 165,000 per year, depending on experience.
