The Control Engineer II will work on developing a new control system product for our solar trackers, and work on improving and resolving issues with our existing control system product.
Work in a team to develop a new control system product for our solar trackers. The specific activities include developing real-time OS microcontroller software in C/C++, developing Linux OS software in Python, developing custom electronics, testing new functional and safety components (controllers, motor drivers, wireless communication modules, circuit breakers, emergency switches, etc.), and integrating the components into a working system.
Contribute to issue resolution and continuous improvement of the existing control system product. The specific activities include developing and debugging PLC software, testing alternative functional and safety components, and improving the layout for cost reduction or better customer experience.
Follow Array's internal process for new product development and continuous improvement. Work with internal stakeholders (especially Product Management and Program Management) as necessary.
Participate in working with third parties such as electronics design houses, contract-based software developers, test labs, and certifiers as necessary.
Participate in field inspections and field testing, to validate new products or to troubleshoot issues with existing products. Travel and work in non-office environment as necessary.
Report the status of work regularly to the hiring manager.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline and 2+ years of experience in the industry in a relevant position, OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience in developing software for embedded devices (microcontrollers such as STM32 and ATMEL); capability to write clear and structured code in C/C++. Must have a good understanding of microcontroller architectures and peripherals (ADC, PWM, I2C).
Knowledge or interest in FreeRTOS or other RTOS environments is a plus.
Knowledge of ladder logic programming to support PLC code development is a plus.
Experience or interest in custom electronics development. Commercial or industrial product development experience is a plus.
Experience or interest in developing software for Linux environment; Knowledge of Python is a plus.
Experience or interest in machine-to-machine communication; Experience or knowledge of the following communication protocols is a plus: Modbus (over RS-485 or TCP), OPC-UA, Zigbee, and RESTful API.
Experience or interest in data analysis. Experience in working with relational databases (MySQL) and the following Python packages is a plus: numpy, pandas, and matplotlib.
Interest in solar industry; Experience with solar SCADA systems is a plus.
Willingness to learn and continuously improve one's technical expertise.
Willingness to work in a team.
The candidate will be subjected to an in-depth technical interview in the interview process. The candidate will be asked to present an engineering portfolio, and the candidate will also be subjected to a C/C++ code test.
