Job summary

ATC Automation is seeking a Mid‑Senior Level Controls Engineer to join our team in Simi Valley, CA. The role involves designing, developing, and supporting custom automation equipment across multiple industries, with hands-on programming and commissioning responsibilities.

You will work with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and Mitsubishi platforms, read electrical schematics in AutoCAD Electrical, and collaborate with customers to meet performance criteria.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in custom automation or related environment.
  • Strong understanding of PLC programming, HMI development, motion control, robotics, and networks.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, program, troubleshoot, and support industrial automation systems.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and Mitsubishi automation platforms.
  • Read, interpret, and create electrical and pneumatic schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Design, develop, and debug complex control programs for industrial machinery and processes.
  • Utilize ladder logic and operator interfaces to control machines.
  • Communicate with customers to define machine requirements and performance criteria.
  • Apply engineering principles to solve technical challenges and optimize performance.
  • Support installation, startup, commissioning, and validation of completed systems.
  • Travel to customer facilities for installation, troubleshooting, and support as required.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and ability to travel.

Job description

ATC Automation is seeking a Mid‑Senior Level Controls Engineer to join our team in Simi Valley, California. In this role, you will design, develop, and support custom automation equipment for a wide range of industries, including Transportation, Life Science, Consumer Products, and General Industry.

ATC Automation specializes in the design and build of custom automated assembly and test equipment. Our engineers collaborate to deliver innovative solutions that meet customer requirements while maintaining high standards for quality, budget, and schedule performance.

A Controls Engineer is responsible for creating electrical and pneumatic schematics, reviewing and analyzing technical drawings, troubleshooting and debugging electrical and pneumatic systems, and determining appropriate material and component specifications. This role also involves programming and commissioning automated machinery with a high level of technical proficiency.

We offer a full‑time, onsite position located in Simi Valley, CA, reporting directly to the Business Unit Manager. The role provides opportunities for professional growth and advancement within the organization.

Salary range: $100,000–$130,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.

How You'll Contribute

Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in custom automation, machine building, or a related industrial controls environment.
  • Strong understanding of PLC programming, HMI development, motion control, robotics, and industrial communication networks.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
Physical Demands
  • Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor.
  • Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently.
  • Exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual acuity: near acuity with or without accommodation.
  • Hearing: ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose.
