Goldman Sachs is seeking a Controller to uphold financial control and reporting obligations for a global, regulated financial institution. This role sits in the firm’s second line of defense, providing rigorous analysis and safeguarding assets through independent scrutiny of financial information.

The Controller function collaborates with Asset & Wealth Management and oversees private funds, including valuation reviews, fund launches and liquidations, and cross-divisional reporting with auditors

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required or equivalent.
• Master's Degree in Accounting preferred.
• CA designation and Big 4 audit experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Safeguard assets and reputation by controlling and supporting the asset management division and ensuring compliance with firm policies and global regulations.
• Review quarterly/monthly valuations and NAVs for private equity and hedge funds, review year-end financial statements and related activities.
• Support the fund launch and liquidation processes.
• Handle corporate, regulatory and management reporting for funds.
• Collaborate with Business Teams, Product Services, Operations, IT and Trading Divisions; coordinate with fund admins and auditors.

Controllers

The mission of Controllers is to ensure that the firm meets the financial control and reporting obligations of a global, regulated and public financial institution. As part of the firm's second line of defense, Controllers provides the critical analysis required while ensuring the internal and external financial information of the firm is accurate. Additionally, Controllers serves an important role in safeguarding the assets of the firm through the independent scrutiny of financial information. Controllers engages regularly with the firm's regulators and auditors and through its strong culture of control and challenge helps to protect the firm from reputational and other risks.

Direct Hedge Funds, Hedge Funds Strategies and Private Equity Group are teams within Controllers that support the Asset & Wealth Management Division within the firm through an oversight over complex private funds.

Responsibilities

• Safeguard the assets and reputation of the firm by controlling and supporting the asset management division, as well as ensuring that they are in compliance with the firm's policies and with the rules/regulations that govern global financial markets
• Review quarterly / monthly valuations and NAVs for private equity and hedge funds, review yearend financial statements and perform related activities
• Support the fund launch and liquidation processes
• Handle corporate, regulatory and management reporting for funds
• Work closely with other divisions, including: Business Teams, Product Services, Operations, IT and Trading Divisions
• Work closely with fund administrators and auditors

Qualifications

• Related Experience: 4-7 years
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
• Master's Degree in Accounting preferred
• Prefer CA with experience in the alternative investments /private funds market and process management desired
• Basic knowledge of financial statements preparation & review, USGAAP, IFRS knowledge and experience in coordinating with Big 4 accounting firms during audit cycle is desirable.
• Basic industry knowledge and strong accounting knowledge. Accounting knowledge of financial products like Interest rate swaps, credit default swaps, currency options etc. is desired
• Strong analytical skills and detail oriented
• MS Office knowledge (Word, Excel) required
• Able to grasp new concepts quickly and work in a team environment
• Able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize
• Excellent interpersonal, client relationship and communication (written and verbal) skills
• Self-starter, inquisitive, enthusiastic with a strong analytical mind-set
