HELIX Environmental Planning, Inc. seeks a hands-on Controller to partner with the CFO, lead the accounting team, and shape the company’s financial operations in a fast-paced, growth-focused environment.

Based at our San Diego headquarters (open to other HELIX office locations and relocation to San Diego over time), you will oversee monthly closes, system improvements, and strategic finance initiatives while guiding audits and tax filings. A competitive six-figure salary awaits a driven leader.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business.
• 5+ years of experience as a Controller or similar.
• Proven experience managing professional staff.
• Experience in environmental consulting or A/E professional services.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the accounting team, including payroll operations.
• Manage monthly financial close and prepare consolidated financial reports.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow management.
• Prepare financial statements, projections, and analyses.
• Implement and maintain accounting systems, controls, and best practices.
• Develop project accounting and reporting systems.
• Partner with project managers to improve financial performance through reporting, analysis, and financial guidance.
• Serve as liaison for audits and ensure compliance.
• Prepare and review tax filings and financial reports.
• Drive process improvements and operational efficiencies.
• Partner with the CFO on financial planning, strategic initiatives, performance reporting, and finance-related business decisions.
