Job description

Hafer is a cutting-edge design firm that delivers value to clients by designing what matters most. As a thriving, busy practice, we’re looking to add a Controller to the team. We are looking for someone excited about the possibilities ahead as we grow. Join Hafer’s team of architects, engineers, planners, and interior designers who thrive on working together to create holistic designs for our corporate, education, community, and healthcare clients.

We are currently looking for a full-time Controller to work in the Evansville, IN, office. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with excellent organizational and personal skills. The Controller is responsible for accounting-related tasks and management of the financial accounts of the business.

The Controller will perform the following tasks:

  1. Invoicing/bill clients monthly
  2. Handle payroll functions and activities including uploading into third-party accounting portal
  3. Coordinate with Human Resources Manager for employee onboarding/termination paperwork
  4. Maintain banking relationships
  5. Assist in the preparation of tax documents and coordinate with accountant firm
  6. Load new projects into accounting software
  7. Collaborate with team members to provide necessary financial reports to senior-level managers
  8. Reconcile deposit accounts
  9. Complete month and year-end closures
  10. Process weekly payables
  11. Monitor monthly expense report
  12. Take weekly deposits to the bank
  13. Organize, enter, and pay invoices to vendors in a timely manner
  14. Serve as backup to the Office Manager

Qualifications:

  1. Proven experience in customer service interaction/relationships
  2. Knowledge of accounting and ability to perform basic accounting tasks
  3. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products required
  4. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel required
  5. Ability to learn and expertly manage firm’s accounting/time reporting software (Deltek)
  6. Understanding of full general ledger accounting
  7. Proven ability to be accurate and must possess strong attention to detail
  8. Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to communicate professionally and effectively electronically, over the phone, and in person
  9. Proven ability to maintain confidential information
  10. Ability to learn new computer programs quickly and efficiently
  11. Exhibits ability to maintain tact and professionalism; professional demeanor
  12. Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance preferred
