Job summary

Ascendo Resources is seeking an experienced Controller in Fort Lauderdale to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and month-end close. This hands-on leadership position partners with executive management and guides the day-to-day accounting function.

The ideal candidate will be a technically strong accountant capable of improving processes, building a high-performing team, and delivering accurate financial information to support strategic business decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience including controller/Accounting Manager roles.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience leading and developing accounting professionals.
  • CPA or master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with timely, accurate reporting.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, journal entries, and management reporting.
  • Oversee general ledger, A/P, A/R, payroll, cash management, and fixed assets.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Coordinate external audits, tax filings, banking relationships, and regulatory reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable regulations.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and automate reporting.
  • Provide financial analysis and strategic insights to executive leadership.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team.
  • Support system implementations, acquisitions, integrations, and special projects as needed.

Job description

A growing organization in Fort Lauderdale is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee its accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and month-end close process. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role that will partner closely with executive management while leading the day-to-day accounting function.

  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, automate reporting, and strengthen financial controls
  • Provide financial analysis and strategic insights to executive leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team
  • Support system implementations, acquisitions, integrations, and other special projects as needed
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager capacity
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, month-end close, and internal controls
  • Previous experience managing and developing accounting professionals
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with accounting or ERP systems
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, growing environment
  • CPA or master’s degree is strongly preferred
