Job summary

MiSide in Detroit, MI seeks a Controller to oversee accounting and financial reporting for programs across the organization and affiliates. The role collaborates with the Executive Council and senior leaders to ensure financial strength and compliance.

Responsibilities include establishing financial goals, driving operating efficiency, and adapting to a changing environment while ensuring alignment with overall goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance is required.
• CPA or Masters’ degree is preferred.
• Seven years of experience as a Controller or equivalent is required.
• Experience in nonprofit sector is highly preferred.
• Experience managing a staff of 8 or more.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for accounting and financial reporting for MiSide programs and affiliates.
• Interact with Executive Council, senior leaders, grant funders, banks, vendors, and external stakeholders.
• Establish financial goals and objectives to ensure financial strength, compliance and operating efficiency.
• Align responsibilities with the organization’s financial goals and adapt to a evolving environment.

The Controller will have a high level of interaction with the organization’s Executive Council and other Senior Leaders, employees, grant funders, banks, vendors and other external stakeholders. Position will be responsible for establishing financial goals and objectives to ensure financial strength, compliance and operating efficiency and must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment. All responsibilities will be aligned with the overall financial goals and objectives of the organization as a whole, including related entities.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance
• CPA or Masters’ degree is preferred
• Seven years of experience as a Controller or equivalent experience
• Experience in nonprofit sector is highly preferred
• Experience managing a staff of 8 or more
