Job summary

Creative Financial Staffing, LLC is seeking a Controller to lead the accounting function for a growing construction organization in Abington, MA. You will own financial reporting, project accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow while partnering with operations to improve project profitability.

You will manage an accounting team, drive process improvements, and ensure compliance with wage and benefit requirements. Onsite role with strong benefits including healthcare and 401(k) matching.

Qualifications

• 5+ years progressive accounting experience in construction, contracting, or project-based industries.
• Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP, revenue recognition, and project profitability.
• Experience with union and/or certified payroll is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Proficiency in Excel and good communication/leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day accounting and financial reporting functions.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Oversee WIP reporting, job costing, revenue recognition, and project profitability.
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial analysis.
• Collaborate with Project Managers on budgets, billings, change orders, retainage, forecasts, and cost-to-complete analysis.
• Oversee AP, AR, and weekly union payroll.
• Ensure compliance with prevailing wage, union benefits, dues, and fringe requirements.
• Manage annual audits, banking relationships, and insurance audits.
• Identify opportunities to streamline processes and strengthen controls.

Controller Key Responsibilities

Controller Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Construction, contracting, or related project-based industry experience
• Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP, and project accounting
• Experience with union and/or certified payroll
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Experience with Spectrum, Vista, Sage 300, or similar accounting systems preferred
• Strong Excel, communication, and leadership skills
• Comfortable working onsite in Abington, MA
