Job summary

M.C. Dean, Inc. is seeking a Control Technician to fabricate control panels, install and commission field instrumentation, and troubleshoot field devices.

The role involves interpreting control circuits, reading diagrams, and maintaining drawings for finished panels at our Richmond-area site. Responsibilities include wiring, sheet metal work, training new staff, and ensuring materials and tools are managed per procedures.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED with 5+ years of shop/electrical experience.
• Ability to read control circuits, schematics and BOMs per NEC/UL508A.
• Willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid within 6 months.
• Pass background check and drug test.

Responsibilities

• Follow work orders, diagrams and wire lists to assemble materials.
• Perform sheet metal work, punching, wiring, painting, welding.
• Provide on-the-job training to new employees.
• Adhere to procedures for ordering, storing and receiving materials.
• Ensure work meets schedule and quality goals.
• Must have 3+ years in a shop and 1+ year electrical experience with diploma.

The Control Technician 3 i s responsible for the fabrication of control panels, field installation and commissioning procedures associated with control panels and field instrumentation, troubleshooting & calibration of field instruments, equipment, and control panels, testing and analysis, documentation and updating drawings of finished control panels. Care of all M.C. Dean, Inc. provided shop tools, meters, and other associated equipment.

Responsibilities

Responsible for:

1. Following verbal instructions and reading instructions such as work orders, diagrams, and wire lists to determine materials needed and sequence of assembly.
2. Performing sheet metal works, punching holes, wiring, painting, and welding.
3. Providing on-the-job training to new employees.
4. Understanding and following Company procedures for ordering, storing, receiving, and returning materials and tools.
5. Ensuring work is completed as per schedule and quality goals are achieved.
6. At least three years of experience in a shop environment and minimum of one year of electrical experience required with a high school diploma or GED.

Certifications

1. Obtain, at the Company’s expense, a CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire and maintain this certification status while employed by M.C. Dean, Inc.
2. Pass a background investigation and drug test.

Work Experience

1. Knowledge of and ability to interpret control circuits, schematics, and various line diagrams.
2. Ability to select various control components needed in the fabrication of Control Panels. To read and prepare a BOM (Bill of Materials) from specifications and/or according to NEC and UL508A standards.
3. Ability to size circuit breakers and fuses for control and power circuits according to specifications and/or NEC standards.
4. Ability to fabricate control panels including design, layout, and install components.
5. Experience with Installation and troubleshooting of Building Automation Systems/DDC, Distech, Siemens, Niagara
6. Ability to install, wire, and test wiring of PLC's, VFD's, and other Solid State control components.
7. Wire control panels and equipment and test circuitry according to specifications and drawings. Commission and document completed control panel or circuits as necessary.
8. Knowledge and use multi-function meters and various test equipment necessary to project.
9. Understanding of various Industrial automation and control schemes.
10. Able to troubleshoot, replace, install, and relocate industrial control circuits and components within various active industrial manufacturing processes and environments.

Abilities

• The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.
• Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
• Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
• Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
• Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
• May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
• Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
• Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

Pay Range

USD $38.00 - USD $45.00 /Hr.
