Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and operate electrical and automated control systems.

Work Schedule

Work Schedule: 3 ×12-hour shifts + 1 ×6-hour shift. Schedule Options: Sunday–Wednesday OR Wednesday–Saturday. Important: Wednesday will always be the 6-hour shift. Candidates must be flexible to work all required hours and schedules.

Job Summary

The Controls Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and operation of electrical and automated control systems and related equipment. The ideal candidate should be able to troubleshoot PLCs, VFDs, sensors, HMIs, motor controls, and communication systems, as well as read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and operate electrical and automated control systems.
  • Monitor control systems, equipment status, and alarms and resolve issues promptly.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, VFDs, sensors, relays, contactors, motor controls, and communication devices.
  • Diagnose electrical and control system failures using schematics, diagnostic tools, and established procedures.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, calibration, testing, cleaning, and repairs.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify potential failures.
  • Make approved adjustments to control system parameters and equipment settings.
  • Verify proper equipment operation after maintenance, repairs, or adjustments.
  • Respond to equipment faults to minimize downtime.
  • Support maintenance and troubleshooting of automated airport equipment and baggage handling systems.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance, inventory, and equipment records.
  • Communicate equipment status, issues, troubleshooting findings, and completed repairs.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams, operations, engineering, customers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and training requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain airport security clearance.
  • Ability to operate company vehicles daily.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical and automated control systems.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming and electrical design.
  • Experience with HMI design/programming.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical, PLC, and HMI systems.
  • Experience interfacing with real-time database applications.
  • Ability to provide on-call support for existing installations.
  • Ability to use laptops, multimeters, hand tools, and electrical troubleshooting equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and control system components.
  • Availability for occasional evening, weekend, holiday, and on-call work.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years of experience maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, or installing industrial electrical, automation, or control systems.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Experience with PLC-controlled equipment and industrial automation systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting: PLCs VFDs Motor controls Sensors Relays Contactors Communication networks.
  • Experience with automated material handling, conveyor, baggage handling, or similar industrial systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication networks and control system architecture.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience using laptops, multimeters, calibration equipment, and diagnostic tools.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and work with hands.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in confined or restricted spaces.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work on an active airport ramp around aircraft, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Good close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
Work Environment
  • The position involves both office and field-based work in an active airport and industrial maintenance environment.
  • The technician may work around aircraft, vehicles, heavy equipment, electrical systems, energized equipment, conveyors, and moving mechanical components.
  • The role may also involve exposure to loud noise, varying temperatures, outdoor weather conditions, confined spaces, and mechanical/electrical equipment.
