Job summary

Matter Intelligence is hiring a Control Systems Engineer to develop and validate control approaches for our sensing systems. The role connects modeling and simulation with hardware integration, test, and real-world behavior at El Segundo, CA.

You will translate performance requirements into control architectures, verify plans, and use simulation/test data to evaluate stability and robustness while collaborating with software, firmware, electronics, and mechanical teams.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in dynamics, feedback control, estimation, and system modeling.
• Experience developing, simulating, and validating controls for a physical system.
• Ability to work across analytical models, software, hardware interfaces, and test data.
• Clear technical communication and disciplined documentation of assumptions and performance results.
• Experience with aerospace, robotics, precision pointing, optical systems or tightly controlled hardware is a plus.
• Experience with real-time systems and hardware-in-the-loop testing is a plus.
• Familiarity with sensor fusion, calibration, or estimation under uncertain conditions is a plus.

About the Role

Matter is hiring a Control Systems Engineer to develop and validate the control approaches that enable stable, accurate performance of our sensing systems. The role will connect modeling and simulation with hardware integration, test, and real-world system behavior.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop models and control algorithms for relevant payload, pointing, stabilization, or subsystem functions.
• Translate performance requirements into control architectures, interfaces, and verification plans.
• Use simulation and test data to evaluate stability, robustness, and expected system performance.
• Support software, firmware, electronics, mechanical, and systems teams during integration and troubleshooting.
• Plan and execute model-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, and system-level validation as appropriate.

What Success Looks Like

• Control performance is modeled, tested, and understood against clear system requirements.
• Algorithms transition cleanly from simulation into integrated hardware and software.
• The team can diagnose performance limits and make informed design tradeoffs using validated evidence.

Location

This role is based in El Segundo, CA, and requires onsite work.
