Job summary

The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising is seeking a full-time Controls Systems EIT/Coordinator based in Austin, TX. In this role, you will support project teams in designing and analyzing control and power distribution systems, contributing to various engineering projects.

Job Overview

The Controls Systems EIT/Coordinator supports project teams in designing, analyzing, and documenting control and power distribution systems. Work varies from independent small tasks to assisting senior engineers on complex projects, often requiring coordination across multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities
  • Check manufacturer drawings and perform engineering calculations.
  • Prepare design layouts and verify code compliance, quality checks, project schedules, and budgets, coordinating with other disciplines as required.
  • Handle design work related to power distribution, motor control, lighting, power system analysis, and grounding.
  • Supervise designers and CAD operators on larger projects, covering power industrial and institutional facilities.
  • Communicate effectively and demonstrate analytical and organizational skills while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Maintain attention to accuracy and detail orientation in all deliverables.
  • Participate in field reviews or construction observation.
  • Apply familiarity with Piping and Instrument Diagrams and leverage professional work experience.
  • Travel occasionally, as project demands require.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Commitment to being an active participant in HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 to 4 years of experience with an architectural, engineering, or engineering consulting firm.
  • Hands‑on experience using AutoCAD, Revit, AutoCAD 3D, and other drafting/designing software.
  • Experience designing SCADA systems, including schematics and loops.
  • Experience with control panel design and panel wiring.
  • Title of Control System Coordinator for candidates without an EIT, with expectation to obtain EIT for career progression.
  • Preference given to local candidates.
