Atlantica Sustainable Infrastructure Plc is seeking a Control Room Operator to safely and efficiently operate a power plant under normal and emergency conditions. You will rotate through shifts, monitor all systems, start/stop equipment, log data, and report irregularities to supervision.

Strong team collaboration and rigorous safety practices are essential. Responsibilities include directing other operators, maintaining logs, and ensuring compliance with procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and inspects power plant to determine operating condition and performance.

  • Operates plant equipment including boilers, turbines, and related systems.
  • Directs activities of other power plant operators.
  • Acts as unit supervisor when required.
  • Accounts for paid on-duty meal and break times during rotating shifts.

Job description

We are currently recruiting a Control Room Operator to join our team and contribute to key projects in a dynamic and collaborative environment. This role is part of a global team working towardcommon goals. We operate as one company, across all locations, with shared responsibility andclear accountability.

Job Summary:

Safely and efficientlyoperatespowerplantduring normal and emergency conditions. Completes special projects/assignments, and performs miscellaneous duties as assigned. Adheres to proper safety procedures. Incumbents may be assigned to work rotatingshifts covering24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays and overtime asrequired.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and inspects all aspects of the power plant todetermineits operating condition and performance.
  • Performs plant start-ups, shut-downs, normal and emergency plant operations asrequired.
  • Advises Operations supervision/management of daily activities and irregularities in plant operation.
  • Maintains neat,accuratelogs and records obtained from routine inspections of operating equipment.
  • Operates all assigned equipment including, but not limited to, boiler, steam generation, turbine, solar field, TES, HTF, condensate, feedwater, and cooling water systems, all balance of plant equipment, etc. asrequired.
  • Operates the plant makeup water treatment plant including demineralizers, heat exchangers, and chemical feed systems.
  • Directs the activities of Power Plant Operators assigned to the same power plant unit.
  • Assumes the duties of the power plant unit supervisor whenrequired.
  • While working rotatingshifts,12 hours per day, all meal periods and breaks shall beconsidered aspaid, on-duty time. The employee will coordinate work activities with coworkers and the supervisor, asappropriate, tofacilitatethe applicable meal and break periods.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advisesunit supervisor of daily activities and irregularities in plant operations.
  • Understands andoperatesfacilitytomaintainall compliance requirements.Notifies Supervisor/Manager or appropriate agency if compliance exceedance occurs.
  • Performs routine housekeeping and cleaning for work area.
  • Performs Emergency Response Team and Fire Brigade duties asrequired, within the level of training completed.
  • Assistsother plant operators and maintenance personnel asrequired.
  • Reviews operating logs,recordsand plant performance asrequired.
  • Completes assigned training requirements.
  • Performs other duties asrequired.

Prerequisites:

  • Fundamental knowledge of power plant systems and equipment is required; with 2 years' experience primarily working with steam generating power plant equipment, or equivalent training and/or operations experience.
  • Experience working on a team and the ability to collaborate with others.
  • Ability to respond calmly to emergency situations.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Strong trouble-shooting and analytical skills in order to solve problems of both a technical and operational nature.
  • Thorough knowledge of power plant operations. A good working knowledge of power plant instrumentation and controls, including routine maintenance.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals at various levels at the plant.
  • Computer skills, specifically experience with Bailey Net 90 required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent education and experience.

Essential Functions of the Job:

The ability to speak, read and write in English. Ability to perform heavy physical work, occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force with assistance, 50 pounds of force on a frequent basis, and up to 20 pounds constantly, performing such activities as grasping, lifting, reaching, crouching, standing, walking, running, climbing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, sitting, and repetitive tasks. The ability to discern assorted colors.

Working Conditions:

Works in a remote power plant environment. Potential exposure to hot, cold, sudden change of temperature, dry, wet, dusty, dirty, quiet, noisy, and working alone or with others. Potential hazards include CTS, minor cuts, falls, eyesight and hearing impairment. Safety critical position.
