Position Purpose

Under general supervision, operates, services, and maintains steam and electric centrifugal chillers, gas turbine-driven ammonia chillers, and boilers to provide efficient energy to customers safely and reliably.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities
  1. Evaluate and maintain proper operation of machinery.
  2. Follow established practices, referring to manuals for operation and maintenance.
  3. Operate equipment to ensure continuous steam and chilled water supply for district heating and cooling.
  4. Maintain pump set operations.
  5. Monitor and record pressures, temperatures, and fuel consumption.
  6. Identify and report symptoms requiring maintenance.
  7. Maintain fuel, hydraulic, coolant, and water levels; service filters and screens.
  8. Monitor machinery for noise and vibration; take corrective actions as needed.
  9. Interpret safety data sheets and apply safety knowledge.
  10. Assist in maintenance and repair using hand and power tools.
  11. Clean and maintain equipment and work areas.
  12. Perform water testing.
  13. Obtain certification to wear a full-face respirator if required.
  14. Adhere to safety procedures and report unsafe conditions.
  15. Work effectively in a team and follow management instructions.
  16. Be punctual and available for scheduled and unscheduled overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  17. Interface diplomatically with coworkers and the public.

Note: This role may involve physical activity, including moving heavy equipment and lifting up to 70 lbs.

Qualifications

Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  2. At least 5 years’ experience in power generation, operating steam generators and turbines.
  3. Hands-on experience with steam generators, especially solid fuel boilers.
  4. Valid Georgia driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
  5. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, manuals, and procedures.
  6. Understanding of alarm management systems.
  7. Experience maintaining plant logs.
  8. Familiarity with DCS and HMI control systems.
  9. Basic knowledge of Google products.
  10. Safe use of hand and power tools.
  11. Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  12. Ability to hear alarms and detect noise changes in machinery.
  13. Capable of lifting 50 lbs and carrying materials up and down stairs.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  1. Training in boiler/turbine DCS controls.
  2. Training in CEMS and emissions control systems.
  3. Knowledge of heat transfer principles.
  4. Experience with preventative maintenance practices.
