Job summary

Thermon seeks a Control Panels Designer to create control panels and assemblies per customer specifications at our San Marcos, TX office. You will prepare drawings, BOMs, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and enclosure cutouts using AutoCAD, SEE Electrical, and established Thermon guidelines.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in a manufacturing setting, strong CAD and technical writing skills, and knowledge of electrical systems, NEC/UL standards, and hazardous location codes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or engineering.
  • Experience designing control panels and assemblies from customer specs.
  • Ability to interpret BOMs, descriptions, specs, and quotations.

Responsibilities

  • Design of small to medium projects or several small projects.
  • Create drawing packages and BOMs.
  • Collaborate with designers and Project Managers to generate drawing packages.
  • Prepare and review drawings for accuracy and adherence to standards.
  • Support production staff to ensure drawings align with the final product.
  • Adhere to Thermon procedures and quality guidelines.

Overview

The Control Panels Designer will design control panels and control panel assemblies per customer specifications to successfully ensure customer satisfaction, production efficiency, and Thermon profitability. Identify design requirements from BOMs, descriptions, specifications, instructions, and Thermon quotations. Prepare drawing packages, including BOMs, layouts, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and enclosure cutouts, and support Thermon Panel Shop staff in constructing the designs. Use design software (AutoCAD, SEE Electrical, etc.) and established guidelines and procedures to design control panels. Additional work support is available from CAD Drafters.

The Designer will be based out of the Thermon office in San Marcos, Texas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design of small to medium projects or several small projects simultaneously
  • Collaborate with the other designers and Project Managers, to generate drawing packages
  • Collaborate with customer representatives on technical issues
  • Create and review drawings using AutoCAD and other software
  • Prepare and review drawings for accuracy
  • Review drawings prepared by other designers
  • Support production staff to ensure the physical product aligns with drawings
  • Adhere to Thermon procedures and guides related to quality and project execution
Key Characteristics, Competencies and Skills
  • Computer literate - Advanced MS Office skills
  • Advanced CAD, technical writing, and communication skills
  • Working technical knowledge of electricity, electrical schematics and control logic, electrical control systems and components, and three phase power distribution
  • Working knowledge of Codes and Standards (NEC, CEC, UL 508A, etc.)
  • Experience with Standards related to Hazardous Locations (NFPA 496, UL 121201, CSA equivalents, etc.)
  • Ability to work autonomously and drive results, and be self-driven and motivated
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
  • Superior teamwork skills across a multi-faceted organization
Qualifications
  • Minimum two year's prior experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to interpret written/oral instructions given by supervisor(s) or assigned personnel, to carry out assigned duties, but seek advice when needed. Instructions/guidance provided for new or non-standard assignments
  • Willingness to learn by asking questions, reading product information literature, and viewing training aides
  • Able to generate new ideas, challenges the status quo, takes risks, supports change, encourage innovation, and solve problems creatively
  • Be enthusiastic and willing to take on responsibility
  • Be safety minded
  • Must be team oriented and able to participate in a team culture
  • Provide instruction and guidance to new and existing employees as needed.
Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology preferred. Bachelor's degree in another technical field.
