Job summary

AllTek Staffing & Resource Group, Inc. is seeking a skilled Control Panel Designer to develop UL508A-compliant control panels from concept through manufacturing, collaborating with engineers and production teams to ensure safe and efficient systems.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of electrical design experience, strong AutoCAD skills, and a solid understanding of NEC/NFPA/UL standards; occasional travel to client sites may be required to support project deployment and commissioning.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field; Bachelor’s preferred.
  • 5+ years in electrical design, especially UL508A control panels.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical; EPLAN/SolidWorks Electrical a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70, NFPA 79 and UL508A standards.
  • Able to travel to customer sites as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop control panel designs using AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical per UL508A.
  • Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings per specs.
  • Generate and manage BOMs for all panel components.
  • Interpret project requirements, codes, and customer needs.
  • Perform power, voltage drop, and circuit sizing calculations.
  • Select components for circuits including VFDs, PLCs, networks.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate PLC logic and HMI.
  • Design panels for hazardous locations per standards and safety regs.
  • Review designs for compliance and assist manufacturing.
  • Mentor junior designers and promote best practices.
  • Travel to customer sites for project support, troubleshooting, commissioning.

Control Panel Designer Are you a skilled electrical professional passionate about creating innovative control panel solutions? Join our dynamic team as a Control Panel Designer, where your expertise will drive the development of safe, efficient, and high-quality electrical control systems. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex projects from concept through manufacturing, collaborating closely with engineers and production teams to deliver excellence in industrial automation.

What You'll Do:
  • Develop detailed control panel designs using AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical in compliance with UL508A standards.
  • Create accurate electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings tailored to project specifications.
  • Generate and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) for all control panel components.
  • Interpret project requirements, electrical codes, and customer needs to craft optimal control solutions.
  • Perform engineering calculations for power requirements, voltage drops, and circuit sizing.
  • Select appropriate components for various circuits, including VFDs, PLCs, and industrial networks.

Required Skills:
  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field (Bachelor’s preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical design, specifically with UL508A control panels.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical; familiarity with EPLAN or SolidWorks Electrical is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical theory, power distribution, and control systems.
  • Experience within industries such as oil and gas, steel, or glass manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70, NFPA 79, and UL508A standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Nice to Have Skills:
  • Experience with hazardous location panel design (Class I Div 1 & 2).
  • Skills in PLC programming and HMI integration.
  • Experience with heating, cooling, SCCR calculations, and component selection.
  • Familiarity with conduit sizing, wiring, and cable scheduling.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Over 5 years of relevant electrical design experience, especially in industrial automation.
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to travel to customer sites as necessary.
  • Willingness to mentor team members and support project success.
  • A commitment to safety standards including NEC, NFPA, and UL regulations.
