Job description

Position Summary

The Controls Engineer will provide programming, installation and maintenance to new and existing production equipment. Must be proficient in Siemens PLCs.

Job Responsibilities

• Evaluate and recommend new and existing equipment updates.
• Diagnose and adjust programming failures.
• Develop new PLC ladder logic, robot interfacing, and documentation.
• Implement cycle‑time improvements for robotic welding and assemblies.
• Train personnel in robot and PLC use.
• Follow and support Magna Body & Chassis and Magna’s operating principles.
• Adopt a safety‑first approach, obeying safety rules and wearing PPE at all times.
• Promote a zero‑injury environment.
• Support quality, environmental, and employee survey goals.
• Collaborate with vendors and contractors, demonstrating company core values.

Education and Experience

Two‑ to four‑year degree in mechanical engineering or related field and/or four years of job‑related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Solid knowledge of metal stamping, spot welding, and assembly processes.
• Proven knowledge of PLCs and programming, with the ability to program/teach robots.
• Electrical knowledge (National Electrical Code) and control wiring.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Intermediate computer skills.
• Ability to prepare, read, write, and interpret reports, instructions, technical procedures, blueprints, diagrams, and business correspondence.
• Strong organization and high integrity.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.

Physical Demands

Involves frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds, with bending, twisting, and reaching.

Environmental Conditions

General factory conditions with hot, humid environment.
