Job description

Contractor Program Security Officer (CPSO)

Firefly Aerospace, an end‑to‑end responsive space company, is building a security team to protect Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) programs. The CPSO will develop, implement, supervise, and maintain the security program for classified launch campaigns and space vehicle development.

Summary

The role supports the Director of Security, delivers security deliverables to internal leaders and external partners, and manages activities across the security spectrum—including physical, information, personnel, operations (OPSEC), and launch/spacecraft integration security. A strong foundation in NISPOM, ICD, DoD regulations, and SCIF operations is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Perform SCIF maintenance functions: access control, procedural training, daily checks.
  • Act as Construction Security Manager during SCIF builds; coordinate approvals and execution with customers and internal/external teams.
  • Interface with customers to ensure compliance for temporary SCIF solutions.
  • Investigate security incidents, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Author and enforce comprehensive security plans (SOPs, CONOPS, EAP, PPP, CSP, FFC).
  • Implement security requirements for IC and DoD programs to maintain NISP compliance.
  • Manage document control and accountability for classified materials, including destruction and trusted downloads.
  • Execute the security self‑inspection program and lead corrective actions.
  • Lead IC security assessments and perform personnel security activities (PERSEC).
  • Maintain personnel security records in government systems (DISS, JADE, TALON/SCT).
  • Assist with classified information system management.
  • Support business development by providing security support for proposals.
  • Handle physical security responsibilities and respond to after‑hour alarms or on‑call assignments.
  • Provide indirect supervision and training for junior security staff.
  • Perform additional security‑related duties as required by program needs.
Qualifications – Required
  • U.S. citizenship with current active TS/SCI clearance and willingness to pass a polygraph.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of IC/DoD security experience with progressive responsibility. Additional years may replace the degree.
  • Hands‑on experience with SCIF management and familiarity with SCIF construction and ICD 705.
  • Deep knowledge of NISPOM, SAP, SCI, and related regulations.
  • Experience with SCIF databases: DISS, NBIS, NISS, Talon.
  • Knowledge of DD‑254 requirements.
  • Team‑player attitude, strong communication skills, and ability to influence at all levels.
  • Experience as a COMSEC Manager or managing COMSEC accounts.
  • Self‑driven, results‑oriented, capable of multitasking and presenting security recommendations in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Completion of Government Launch Security training program.
  • Experience developing program protection strategies for NISP, SAR, and/or SCI programs.
  • Ability to manage large cross‑functional projects.
