Job summary

Trane Technologies is seeking a Contracting Project Specialist to support Complex Solutions projects on-site at customer locations. You will assist the Project Manager, supervise installation teams, and help ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget.

The role requires 5–10 years in Commercial HVAC or construction, with strong project coordination skills and Procore/MS Office proficiency. Occasional travel and overtime may be required.

What's In It For You

The Contracting Project Specialist is responsible for assisting the Complex Solutions Project Manager to assure that the projects are completed and maintain the standard of excellence established by the company and customer. Certain tasks will be assigned Construction Project Superintendent to take the lead on with little oversight. Along with working with the Complex Solutions Project Manager, this role will be given opportunity to execute selected projects including managing financials, administration, implementation, and customer satisfaction. The Contracting Project Specialist will ensure that quality standards are maintained across all tasks and projects.

What You Will Do
  • Responsible for the installation, commissioning, diagnosis, repair, and start-up of HVAC systems, utilizing knowledge of air conditioning theory, pipe fitting, air distribution, controls and mechanical layouts.
  • Responsible for planning, analyzing and timely completion of assigned projects and activities.
  • Ensures compliance with internal contracting processes.
  • Performs site surveys, replacements, modifications and start-up as needed or requested by customers.
  • Prepares for on-site installation by examining building layout, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials and coordinating on-site work, and coordinating with other trades as necessary.
  • Maintains assigned stock of inventory, company equipment, and documents all related activities.
  • Records parts, material, labor, and other cost data per assignment and returns unused resources.
  • Provides sales leads to appropriate personnel.
  • Documents work by completing paperwork on each job, including daily time, progress, and duration; and maintaining files.
  • Turns in all required paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
  • Provides technical support to customers on assigned projects.
  • Communicates with customers and their representatives, including building owners, subcontractors, and field support staff.
  • Maintains customer satisfaction by investigating concerns and implementing corrective action.
  • Ensures compliance with internal contracting processes.
  • Supports Project Managers by ensuring that assigned projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Supports Project Developer in the procurement of equipment.
  • Responsible for acquiring project materials from local suppliers.
  • Assists Project Manager in planning assigned projects and prioritizing tasks.
  • Attends planning meetings on a weekly basis.
  • Supervises work of project installation technicians, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Must have the ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Ensures quality installation of assigned projects.
  • Assists in estimate development.
  • Supports the Project Manager in change order management by recommending solutions, facilitating quotes, and closing orders.
  • Willingness to learn new HVAC technologies and systems.
  • Ability to operate rental equipment (i.e. forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, etc.)
  • Represents the company by serving as the direct customer contact and is responsible for servicing products and equipment on assigned projects, ensuring customer satisfaction by identifying, analyzing, diagnosing and repairing equipment and systems at customer’s location.
  • Keeps current on Trane products concerning installation of direct digital control systems.
  • Inspects vehicles by checking vehicle condition and literature supplies.
  • Maintains vehicles by keeping records of service manuals, scheduling, completed repairs and maintenance service.
  • Maintains tools and equipment by inspecting for signs of wear.
  • Continually enforces safety to the highest standards and maintains security and accountability of company issued and procured assets by recording use, wear and conditions.
  • Regular travel requirements with occasional overnight stays.
  • Display team effort and dedication to customer by maintaining flexibility to work overtime and weeks as the business requires, including occasional overnight stays.
What You Will Bring
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent required, and typically at least 5-10 years of experience in Commercial HVAC Installation or General Construction. Technical School or formal training is preferred.
  • Background in project management, project coordination or related work.
  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft office software and working proficiency with handheld computer (i.e. Smartphone, iPad). Experience with Procore preferred
  • State Contractor Licenses Preferred (e.g. HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, Gas Installer etc.).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to: DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
  • Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.
